I haven’t hunted deer with a rifle in a while, but here’s a couple that fell to the longbow in the past few years. I think it’s time to shoot some with one of my Henrys.

I was able to take another Fallow buck this year with the oldest rifle in my safe. A 450 bpe double, proof marks show it was proofed pre 1865.

I sat just inside the bush looking over a water hole and he came out to feed 1 hr before dark.

Glad you guys can get out and hunt. I have NO problem with hunting, I hunted as a kid, squirrel, rabbits, and the like. Never was a deer hunter, I couldn't eat game meat so I didn't hunt it. The smaller stuff the family would eat all we shot. One deer a year was all they would eat so Stepdad took that.

After my time in the Corps, I didn't hunt any longer though I still shot, A LOT. When I went into the various forms of LE for the next two plus decades, my competitive shooting gave credibility to my Firearms Instructor status. I did enjoy the woods, so when I shot during hunting season, I used a Canon AE or a Nikon D40.

During my LAST interview before being hired for Fish and Game they actually asked me if I was a hunter. When I said "NO" the LT got all interested, until I explained as I did above. They just wanted to make sure they weren't hiring a PETA spy.

You can tell a lot about the character of a man...
by the way he treats those who can do nothing for him.

I don't look back at the things I can't do anymore with regret, I just look forward to the things I still can.
