I took hunters safety at Long beach elementary (Washington)in 1974 I was 12. We brought our firearms on the school bus ( yes on the bus) The driver MR. Biles was a WWII navy veteran ,he checked the firearms and stacked them behind his seat. Mine was my dad's Winchester 32 special. The instructor at the school was Long beach police chief "Big Al" as he was known. We had a class, test and life fire to demonstrate safe handling in the woods behind the football field. Then we went home on the bus same way we arrived. There were no school shootings, no protests . We all went deer hunting that year, I got a doe. How times have changed. I so miss yesteryear
