Bear with Henry 45-70

Post by Mr Twister » Mon Aug 22, 2022 12:17 pm

Thought I would share these pics of my first black bear I got here in Michigan a few years back with a Henry 45-70. Bear weighed 420 lbs and skull measured 19-6/16". This hunt was a serious adrenaline rush, one of my favorite hunts. I look forward to the next bear hunt and delicious bear steaks / bear meatloaf!

Nice, handloads or factory ammo?
How far away was he when you pilled the trigger.
Must be a Spring or Fall hunt as I notice you're in a tee shirt.

I used factory loads from Winchester for this bear, I reload for my 45-70 but at the time I hadn't worked up a good load yet.

This was very up close and personal, 10 yards or so.

We only have fall hunts in Michigan for bear, this was September 17th.

Holy cow, bet you were glad you had a 45-70 in your hands. :o :o

Love the pic, nice presentation with the bear in the foreground and the dogs in the background. Oh, yeah the hunter looks good too! :D

Few of us get to see a live bear up so close. Congratulations.

I bet that bear looked mighty big in that scope! Nice composition of the picture too. Did the dogs have a hand (paw) in the hunt?

Yes the dogs worked him for 24 miles tracked on gps from 7am to 1:30 pm before bear decided to quit running / walking.
