Hunter Safety Class

I was required to take a hunter safety class online to get a Texas Hunting License. It was a real pain as I was up all night and didn’t get much sleep the night before I went hunting.

I’ve been shooting since I was ten and have taken dozens of firearms safety classes so what was I to learn that I didn’t already know? It turns out I had a lot to learn. All my safety classes were about firearms safety and little to do with hunting.

The class taught me about how all our National Forests were created and about Fair Chase. The class did not preach about what is right and what is wrong. It taught me the differences and I was able to choose what I think is fair and what is not.

I’m now more interested in hunter history and the Pittman-Robertson Act of 1937.

Good for you, Gene. We're never too old to learn.

Well, contrary to the old adage, you can teach an old dog new tricks.

Unfortunately, they don't remember them for very long.

Lots of us who are longer in the tooth find that there is a lot we can learn about things we thought we had lots of knowledge and experience with.
