OK, Class, First We Shoot the Deer

Post by CT_Shooter » Thu Mar 21, 2024 10:09 am

This is a NY Times report about an elective Missouri High School class that teaches students Farm-to-Table processes, from butchering animals to preparing and cooking the meat. I think it's a great idea.

I find it interesting that the NY Times would even report on a story like that

They, the nyt, think they are showing how backwards the rural folk are. Not recognizing the true , valuable education going on here.

Interesting. I thought the article actually celebrated both the school and the students, and didn't come away thinking it described anything other than a "valuable education".

As a current resident of the state of NY, I'd love to see Gov. Hochul support something like this.
Where I live, there is a SUNY (State University of New York) campus that specializes in agriculture, and they actually do stuff like this, but that is not a public high school, it's a college. They also have fisheries and wildlife, where they breed tiger trout and release them into a local reservoir where we can fish for them. They teach how to drive and how to maintain tractors and farm implements, all very hands-on real world stuff up here.
But as for the prospect of this being anything but an interesting article in The Times as far as NYC goes, I don't see that happening. That's all our loss too.

OK, I didn't read the article. I now have. I apologize to the class for my knee jerk reaction.
They have a great system set up in that school.
Thanks CT Shooter for the smack up the side of the head. Well deserved

I'll bet the New York Times writer got some good educating also. My hat is off in respect to the teacher and students in that small rural community. They will get much more good out of those classes than hours spent on some video game.

Yup, maybe some who read the article will learn something. I love it!

by the way he treats those who can do nothing for him.
