I only had hens respond to my slate call. I need to either change calls or learn to speak a different turkey language. Seriously though, it had been 25+ years since I've hunted them in the spring. One of the greatest joys I took away from it was listening to the birds (other than turkeys gobbling) awaken at sunrise. I really got a good laugh at the pileated woodpecker hammering at a tree limb, it almost gave me a headache watching!

Just watched a pileated drink from the birdbath about six feet from my front window for the second time today.

I had a young tom with his hens in the yard last week. I popped outside and he gobble-strutted right into number 3. He is chilling in the freezer for a couple of weeks.
