Grouse hunt with the Henry 410

Post by Hatchdog » Sat Oct 01, 2022 9:38 am

My wife, dog and my previously unfired Henry 410 went out on a grouse hunt yesterday. Only saw one grouse who was out of range for the little 410. But it was a fun day and the dog enjoyed himself as did my wife and I. The Henry worked flawlessly. I first ran three target loads thru it (I installed the magazine limiter tube to be legal). They cycled perfectly. Took a shot with a #6 field load at that grouse and later ran three more target loads thru it for some dog training. Sure do like that little 410 but I wish it would shoot 3” mags for those longer shots. Here’s some fun pics from yesterday.

Thanks very much for the good photos. My first Golden went to Arkansas with me duck hunting near Stuttgart and always got excited when I brought out the shotgun even to clean it. I miss having one but at almost 75 it would not be fair to the dog. I hope to see more of the Golden and you bird hunting photos from this fall.

Hatch, great pictures! Even when I upland bird chase, I'm having a ball. Looks like a great time indeed. :)

Heading back up this morning for several days. Our focus will be on fishing Lake Roosevelt (Columbia River) but we plan on doing some grouse hunting too. Not bringing the atv so our area coverage will be very limited. These old feet can only go so far..

Just got home from several days at camp. Spent two days fishing and two mornings grouse hunting and if I were to depend on my fishing and hunting I would be starving. big zippo on both. My wife towed the boat so we left the atv at home and did a bunch of walking looking for grouse. I found that my Henry 410 with the walnut stocks can get heavy. Or maybe I’m just getting old.
