No Clue Antenna

Post by JEBar » Thu May 23, 2024 10:08 pm

recently I've seen the antenna in use in a couple of different campgrounds and I have no clue what its for .... if anyone has any info about it, I sure appreciate hearing it .... ignore the stand holding it .... that stand is simply being used to support the antenna

That's a Starlink satellite internet antenna.

Short Definition.
Starlink is a constellation of thousands of satellites that orbit the planet much closer to Earth, at about 550km [340miles], and cover the entire globe. Because Starlink satellites are in a low orbit, latency is significantly lower—around 25 ms.
Some info about it. The first url is an order page for the roaming version. The other urls are about how it works.

It’s been available in this area for several years. I get something in the mail about it once a month.

LTE Advanced and 5G make more sense, data rate and cost wise, if available where you're at or traveling to. I get barely 2 bars of cell service outdoors where I live and no cell service indoors except through our LTE Extender which routes cell phone calls and apps usage over our FIOS internet service. Without FIOS, I'd be having to use HughesNet or Starlink for internet service.
