Can we get a sword sub forum. I know I'm not the only one who likes the big steel.

I don't have a problem making a sub forum for swords. I have a real one and like it.

I'll tell you what. Depending how many swords you have, post about them. If we get responses, I can make a sub forum. I'll even take the time to post mine.

I have a Civil War Union Navy Officer's sword that belonged to an ancestor of my wife who lived in Gloucester, MA. The scabbard is badly damaged (broken into three parts), but the sword itself is in good condition with the exception of the braided rope on the hilt, which is no longer attached to the pommel. I'd love to know if it should be left alone or restored; and if it can be restored, who does that sort of work.

Personally I don't see much reason not to restore sabers, they were mass produced and are still easy to find at good prices as a result. My buddy Wes Beem of Lonely Wolf Forge is rather good at that sort of thing. Here's a link to his site. He mostly deals in full customs but I bet he could polish your blade up.

I don't know if you are familiar with the Smoky Mountain Knife Works .. .. it is located just off of I-40 in Sevierville, TN, TN exit 407 .... if you like blades and most anything else, its well worth a visit if/when you happen to be in the area

I would purpose this, the subforums in knives rather than being divided by company as they are currently should be divided into folding knives, fixed blade knives, swords, and axes/hatchets/tomahawks. I think this will make for better organization and greater ease of finding what you're looking for in here.

When I started this section, I was waiting to see where it goes.

I thought I would drop a few pics in the SWORD section, just to prove we have an interest.

As a former Staff NCO in the Corps, of course I have a Marine NCO sword. THIS isn't it. Mine is locked in the gun safe in it's velvet bag, in it's shipping box. Too expensive to hang on the darn wall. It has gold trim, my name on the blade and all the bells and whistles. It's a magic sword, the leader of men.

This is a copy, ordered by a good friend of mine for me so I could hang one on the wall. Looks good, and It'll do, Don-keh, it'll do. THIS, is a copy of a Calvary Saber. I didn't want to mortgage the house to buy a real one. A young friend of mine knew I collected Guns and Knives...Swords, sharp letter openers.... and he needed to do something with this. His nephews kept messing with it. HE believes it's a Philippine knife or short sword, but now it's mine. I liked it immediately, have never seen one. (Gang, any input here?) This was another instance where Karma came back around. We had given the young man a place to go to get away from his Brother's house for a while for a couple days, several times a month. He would come out and fish with us, sleep over, sit and read on the deck, we'd grill on the grill and just relax. His nephews were good kids, but never left him alone. He wanted to pay us back for our kindness. He also gave me a battle lance he bought at the same time.

Another friend gave me THIS copy when she was moving. A collectable..... Braveheart Sword.
It's heavy, huge, Chest high when the tip is on the floor.

Thanks, you are right.. very interesting.
This one is very elaborate, with tiny mother of pearl inlay.

Very cool swords. I'll try to post mine soon. I'm still looking for SingleAction357 to post his.
