I was looking on Amazon at some Black Friday deals. Found a real nice Schrade Uncle Henry bowie knife with real stag handle for 60% off. I ordered it and will be here this week. 10" blade. A little different shaped blade than my other bowie. Will post pics.

Do you have rules/regs on knife carry in Alberta? It would be interesting to learn some of that stuff.
A little complicated here in MO, but still have laws that mostly support EDC of knives.

No issue with fixed blade knives that I'm aware of, although walking around town with a 15" bowie might not be a good idea, and would likely draw some unwanted attention. Any kind of switchblade is illegal I believe. Folding knives are ok too as long as they don't operate like a switchblade.

Well my new knife has been scooped up at the post office by my wife and it looks like my son will be giving it to me for Christmas....haha. I'll post pics when it finally shows itself....

We have ours in October. Don't ask me why. Maybe the pilgrims got off course and ran aground in Nova Scotia in October and by the time they got it off the sand bar and sailed to Plymouth Rock it was late November.

Can you openly carry a fixed blade there JCN? We can in NY, but it varies by region on "social acceptability". In the countryside and mountains it's common place. I rarely see many people still carrying a belt pouch folding knife in suburbia.

Interesting laws in your locations, JCN & Dave. Although here in the Show-Me State the knife laws are mostly direct and understandable, they are not fully knife-friendly. Open carry of any legal knife is allowed with the exception of certain sensitive locations -- such as schools. Concealed carry is extremely restricted. Missouri does not allow us to carry any concealed knives whatsoever. The exception is ordinary folding pocket knives with blades 4” long or shorter. At the same time, below the state level in some towns the legal concealed knife length is reduced to less than 3.5” in some cases, and up to 2.5” blade length in others. These variations make it a little complicated to carry a knife and be in compliance.

One of the state laws is friendly and helpful. For persons who only have one hand, MO allows these persons to carry a switchblade with blade length at 3” max. I understand this aligns with overall American law. I thought this is cool to have in place.

Final comment. That was an interesting phrase you used, Dave, on NY allowing open carry of a fixed blade based on the "social acceptability" of a region. Wonder how that is determined?

All this stuff does keep us on our toes.

Our gun laws are nuts but not so much with knives. Or crossbows. Anybody can buy one over the counter.

Yes, a fixed blade can be carried openly.

I agree with the social acceptability though. Maybe not a great idea to carry a big fixed blade knife openly as it would draw attention. I don't live in a rural environment.

Even with rural living here, it would make folks nervous in town for sure. Lucy would have some "splainin'" to do.

Va restricts switchblades, ballistic knives, dirks, butterfly knives, and a few others. You can own them all in VA, you just can't carry them.. A large segment of the population believes there is that arbitrary 4" blade restriction on folding knives as well, however, unless there is a local ordinance, no such restriction exists in state laws. (The law could have changed in the last ten years... but I doubt it.)

I have a number of cold steel knives in my collection. Never been disappointed in the quality.

dave77, I have an original Cold Steel AK-47. I really like the locking action on it. This is the second generation. It looks good too. As BoM just stated, I have several Cold Steel knives. I have the Tantos from Japan. True classics.

I've been thinking about ordering one of these for my collection, legal here since they're assisted. Don't know about the quality since it's a $40 knife but at least it'll be kind of neat for the novelty. There is a video of the action in the link.

dave77, I know someone with a knife like that. Remember, it's a $40.00 knife. It's a single action Out the front automatic. It would be a fun "toy", but not too practical. If I remember, my friend's broke shortly after he showed me.

Save your money and look at one of the quality makers. If they call a single action OTF spring assisted where you are, look at Paragon. They make some pretty good ones. They are a lot more than the one you're looking at, but it will last.

Let us know what you get. They are fun to "play with" use.
