IMHO...can never be too dark. That's just my taste. Lookn' good Jim!

After my return from two hours of Physical Therapy this morning, I was out in the shop. I burnished the edges of the sheath. This entailed wetting a rag to dampen the edges, then applying a tad bit of Japanese burnishing gum, and rubbing briskly with the burnishing tool. Burnishing seals the open grain of the edges and gives them a finished smooth appearance. In addition, it protects them from grit and moisture entering the leather and hastening it's demise. So, burnishing is a good thing on many fronts.

I then dampened the inside and outside of the sheath and fitted the fix bladed knife into position and formed the wet leather around the knife. It was left to dry. While it was drying, I applied some dark brown antique paste to accent the detailing I so painstakingly created, and hopefully hide any missed spots in the work all thru the project.

I'll buff her out, add one last coat of finish and we are done.

The new barn is going up today, and our bug guy is treating the yard for slugs and grubs, but I'll likely start cutting rebar spikes for the range tomorrow.



Maybe more leatherwork after the range is done, or when we have foul weather. Calling for rain in the next week or so. Pond still needs about four foot of water added.
