Back in early July, I ordered my first knife in many years. http://henryrifleforums.com/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=1005 That was partly because my interest in knives has been piqued by this Henry sub-forum, and all the sharp-looking knives I've seen in our Henry folk's collections. So I guess I'm just starting out and building a small collection myself!

From time-to-time, I get back to the DLT Trading web site and web "shop" for my next collector's piece. I did find a very cool-looking "tactical" knife listed that is made by SOG. Haven't been able to figure out why it's listed as a tactical knife, but I guess someone knows! I liked its look and configuration very much, so decided to get one. It arrived at my door yesterday.

It's a SOG Snarl. Following is a brief description penned by SOG:

The Snarl is a everyday ready fixed blade model from SOG in collaboration with custom knife maker Jason Brous. The "functional fantasy" Snarl knife features a 9CR18MoV stainless steal sheepsfoot style blade with a satin finish. It's like a brass knuckles/SOG mash-up. Includes sturdy sheath for neck or belt carry.

Maybe the "brass knuckles" component is what puts it into the tactical category. Anyway, this model is made in China. SOG has another very similar knife model made in USA, but for me the price was a catch this time. The USA model, while probably worth it, was much more expensive. Since this knife will be mostly a looker, and/or an occasional front-pocket EDC, I went with the budget factor.

It's quite small. OAL is only 4-1/4", and it weighs a tremendous 1.9 oz.! The third picture provides some perspective of the short length....the common clothespin is 3-1/4" OAL. Here are some pictures of my new blade. [Click pic for larger view]
Again, I found this knife in exactly my favorite color combination (which I've found easy to do with knives) -- satin stainless steel with a black kydex sheath. And like my Victorinox Swiss Army Hunter Pro, I also had this knife engraved.

I wonder when and what number 3 will be in this new collection I'm building?!?

Looks pretty "tactical" to me.
The finger holes and middle finger notch should give you a good grip on it.
Another feature that the marketing folks use on a knife like that is that it can be worn on lanyard around the neck.
This makes it easy to conceal under a shirt and easy to get to if needed for self defense.
It is a small blade but if it was all you had to save your life it would earn the tactical badge.
I know a lady who keeps a knife that size on her keychain. It is a backup for her revolver.

I find the hold most comfortable with the forefinger in the hole behind the blade, and the middle finger in the notch. I leave the other hole empty, because the fourth finger moves somewhat "backward" placing it there. I put that finger right next to the notch finger. This is quite comfortable.

You're right about the tactical aspect according to SOG. They advertised the knife for pocket or belt carry, as well as "neck carry." They even provided a chain to wear around the neck.

Interesting new stuff to me. Well then, it's my first "tactical" knife!
