I was in my favorite gun shop in Saranac Lake a couple weeks ago. Things at camp weren't going well. The weather was going to deteriorate, the boat developed an engine problem I couldn't fix and I needed an instant "fix". I went to town to get some groceries and stop at my FAVORITE gun shop. The owner wasn't feeling well and wasn't in. His son was in good spirits and the conversation drifted to knives. After looking at a few, as if I needed anymore, I had settled on a nice sheath knife. Before we checked out, Chris asked if I was interested in locally made knives? Of course I was. He showed me two that were really nice. An attached card said what it was made from for the blade and the handles. He had two more and I had a dilemma. I liked each one. I finally settled on a chunky bush type blade. It was made from a forged chain saw bar. I liked everything about it. The sheath protected almost all of it, was well made and the blade was super sharp. I took it with me and had visions of using it as an almost daily user.
Fast forward to getting it home. The sheath was well made and I wanted to break it in. I decided to wear it outside as often as possible to get it to soften and loosen up. Well, the other day, I was VERY glad I had it on. A ground hog ran in front of the dog and I and couldn't get into it's doorway under a chain link fence. The dog got after it but then it got the dog, he cried out. That was it. Don't hurt my dog. I pulled the dog away as it was staring him down and I gave it a thrust into it's back. It flopped onto it's belly and it was on. Two or three more thrusts and it left the earth. The dog picked it up, victorious, and brought it to the shade. I attended the dog, but it was a scrapper from Texas. Nothing in Upstate NY was going to bother him.
The knife performed and worked wonderfully. I'd buy the other three they have in stock at Woods & Waters in Saranac Lake NY.
I am including one photo of the pooch with the chuck. The knife was wonderful for the task!!!!
