Good day, Everyone. I wrote a small commentary on the BF earlier today, where the thread theme was considering what "all sorts of cutting" people do with their knives. Most of the folk, I think, live in more of a rural/farm setting, which is different than where we are at here in KCMO. Our primary living spaces have been apartments prior to and since I retired. So yard work and workshop projects are much, much less here since I don’t have the “places or spaces” to do those things.
But even in apartment life I do pull my EDC knife out of my pocket most every day for this or for that. My "all sorts of cutting" with a knife is just that, “all sorts.” Posting this thread to ask/see what you do with your knives….either daily or occasional use? Here's a little of my usage.
Most often I and my blades do battle with heavy-duty cardboard. I get boxes with nutrition supplies each month for my wife, and from time-to-time I order Small Arms ORD from the web. Any larger boxes I often cut out target rectangles to take to the shooting range. Boxes are in abundance here.
There is a "rule" posted by our building dumpster that states "all boxes must be flat/broken down." So there is a lot of cutting needed to comply! I had a neat surprise last week with a knife I got early this year, and had not really used at all yet. I got it through an NWTF (National Wild Turkey Federation) raffle as a gift when I tried to win a Henry rimfire rifle (no rifle, but I have a cool-looking knife with a beautiful wood handle). Here is the Sarge knife folder, which carries 440 stainless for its 3.5" blade, China-made:
The surprise was cutting down a 5-foot tall cardboard shipping box that had our new living room chair in it. It was very thick, heavy board, and I knew that with any smaller knife/short blade (also duller) would be a job. So I pulled the Sarge out of my pocket and gave it a try. I'm sure everyone knows what cutting through warm butter is like. I was done with the box in about 3-4 minutes! This time I also made a 5' x 5' patterning target sheet for my newer pump shotgun -- need to check out a couple of new chokes and see how they pattern at a couple of distances. All that said, a new sharp knife is most enjoyable to use!
Yup, not a lot of work projects here for me. But for a "Northland" dweller in KCMO, from time-to-time the blades flash in the sunlight here.
Stay sharp & stay safe!
Have a great day!
The site should be fixed. We show secure now, we should have a favicon and the picture aspect should be better.

I have My Kershaw in the shop, tough blade and I use it for cutting hoses, belts, opening parts whatever.
Do have a couple of China knives for GP, one I like, in my loading center, great cardboard cutter and if I drop it
or screw it up no big deal, I keep the USA and Buck knives for carrying and try not to abuse them !

I have a five gallon bucket that I leave in the atrium as a trash can. Since it rains a lot here in the Seattle area I used my knife to "drill" a hole in the bottom to let rainwater out.

Re: All sorts of cutting
Well a few things around here I use my knife's
For is my bird feeders , I use the small zip ties
To hang feeders and keep the feeders closed.
So Iam cutting the zip ties all the time.
Plus I have 5 trailers 2 utility trailers and 3 boat trailers. That need light repairs , and fix rusty wire
Connection s. So Iam stripping wires and , again
Cutting wire ties.
Also cutting card board for target's
Just put a new top on a portable car port shead
Had to cut some rope. And fix a bunggy cord.
And with three boats to winterize had lots of oil bottles to open and fuel stabilizer and gear oil
RV Antifreeze
And again covers to build and tie down.
And at the end of the day I use the cork screw puller to open my bottle of Tug Boat red. Wine.
That cork screw puller is the one on my SAK.
