Knives offered by NRA

I'll be interested in seeing the knife you get from NRA, DWD. You mentioned it in your post inquiry about Stone River knives.

I received an NRA knife a few years ago as a membership gift. Still don't know what kind of knife it is...no markings on the blade other than the type of steel (440). But under the 400 series of steel designations, the letter grade of A or B or C is missing. So you cannot tell what the steel is made of, or its quality level. Anyway, my 2-1/2" blade already has a few side notches in it right behind the point; I was surprised when that happened. So it just might be the steel quality at the bottom of these ratings. The NRA knife is the smallest one at top in this photo:

I recently received an NRA email promoting their web store products. Found this knife with an interesting handle configuration. Thought it was kind of cool-looking, and it would be a collector's piece, I'd think.

But again, in the description there is no identification of what kind of knife. It has a 440C (higher end) steel blade, and an option for the "rifle stock" knife handle made either of satin finished black walnut or a hardwood laminate. I wonder where NRA gets its promotional knives from? What company or brand do they use? Does anyone know? Thanks, and have a great day.

Anyone know about Stone River knives?
Looks like a quality blade, most are ceramic. Getting one from NRA, pretty cool. I'll get a link tomorrow.

Below is the description I've found of the steel type your NRA blade shows on the knife order form, at "420-grade stainless steel." My small knife numbered 440 steel is one of the lower grade steels. Probably this is the reason for the "side notches" on my blade already. However, if my knife were made of the 440C steel, it would have a carbon content range between .95-1.20%. This carbon level material is considered a higher end stainless steel.

The 400 SERIES:
420 Steel - Has about .38% carbon. The low carbon content means that this steel is very soft, and doesn't hold an edge well. It is low quality, low cost material. Many cheap knives tend to be made of this material because of its cost. Blades made from this material need to be sharpened frequently, and often chip. On the bright side, all 420 stainless steel is extremely rust resistant. This means that one of the best uses for this material is to make diving knives because of their constant contact with saltwater. Sometimes, you will also see 420J. 420J is the lowest quality 420 steel, but is also the most rust resistant.

My knife works out okay for me, and as a free gift, no complaints really. The snake skin look on your handle really supports the blade motto of "Don't Tread On Me." An interesting knife presentation.

I don't plan on using it much, looks too cool. And for $25.75 I figured WTH !! I'll keep carrying the China made Rebel flag, if I screw IT up
or lose it , no biggy

That rifle stock handle NRA knife is pretty cool. It says USA on the blade, so it must be good quality.
