Oh and almost forgot my crazy double barreled "Frankengun" Gamo based 22/Shotgun the Deuce 22!

I love my airguns too. I probably have a dozen or more scattered around my place. My latest is a Benjamin Marauder pistol that I added shroud extension to. Oh boy, is it quiet! I bought an NOE mold that casts a 30gr 22 caliber slug last year, and my Gamo Urban shoots them well out to about 60 yards. There are so many facets to this shooting hobby, and I really feel like anyone that doesn't add an airgun or two into the mix is missing out.

Nice to have a couple more airgun shooters with us. We have a beautiful airgun collection, too. In fact, we have more airguns than any other type of guns in our overall gun collection and our most expensive guns just happen to be airguns, though we also have a lot of the very affordable stuff, too.

We also have a nice backyard range with distances out to 50 yards to shoot our airguns and, now that it's getting cold, we move more and more to our indoor 10 meter range.

My favorites and the ones I shoot the most are our spring piston guns by HW, RWS and Air Arms. Here's one of our beauties in the AA TX200

Plus while shooting you can get a good arm workout cocking the big caliber break barrels. That 30 takes a good 60 lbs. of force to cock!

I use a hand pump for my pcps, so I get a good workout too.

I only have one. An old Sheridan pump. I love it though. It is a squirrels nightmare. Challenging to pump after 6 or 7, which I rarely do anyway.

I use a pump on my Steyr LP-10 10 meter pistol. It came with a special pump for that purpose. It runs on very small volume cylinders, so 50 pumps does a fill. However, since this is a very sophisticated 10 meter air pistol that shoots at only 500 fps, I get 150 shots per fill.


I can use a pump on our Benjamin Discovery, since as PCP rifles go, it runs at a very low 2000 psi. Using a Benjamin pump, it also takes 50 pumps to fill. On the other hand, that only gives me 20 or so good shots per fill. That's why I go with a scuba tank most of the time on this one.


For those of you who aren't familiar with what an air rifle can do, I should add that those are 20 really good shots from this very affordable PCP rifle.

And those classic pump ups with the right pellet can do it, too. You're right, Mark, these Sheridans can be a squirrel's nightmare. Back in the day, I used a Sheridan for a lot of squirrel hunting.

You can spend more on a PCP air rifle getting set up than buying 2 Henrys.

No argument, there, but, of course, it depends on what rifle you buy. Some PCP rifles are very reasonably priced. Got our Benjamin Discovery used, with the pump, for $150. Don't forget those classic pump ups, by the way. If you're patient, you can still find a good used Sheridan Bluestreak for that same $150. Then all you need are pellets.

I bought my Gamo Urban for around $250, and it's a 10 shot repeater. I also bought an NOE mold that casts 30gr slugs, so now I don't have to buy pellets. Here's a video of them hitting my 45 yard spinners. I was shooting through the fence and managed to hit a wire on one shot.

NCG how would you compare that TX 200 to the HW97. And are you bench shooting that gun or can you shoot off hand with it. Was curious how heavy it is. Ive been so close to getting an airgun but I keep wanting the pcp over the spring gun. But I have serious thoughts about pumping one up with a hand pump. The pcp compressors I have looked at are like 800.00

What hand pump are you using on the pcp guns and whats it really like pumping one of those up with one.

Ive come to the conclusion if I buy an air rifle it will be a Daystate Huntsman Regal xl. Its such a neat looking rifle and has excellent reviews. One reviewer said it was easy to pump up with the hand pump. Need to find out more info on it.

I have the Benjamin hand pump and a cheap Chinese made one off ebay. Both work well, and I wouldn't call it overly strenuous, but I'm a big guy and in pretty good shape for 50, I think. I will say that the Benjamin marauder pistol is much easier than the Gamo. I don't think it would be difficult for anyone. It has plenty of power and accuracy for anything I'd want to shoot out to 45 or 50 yards.

How high do you fill that one. The Baystate is over 3000 lbs of pressure I think its 250 bar

Max fill is 3000 but I fill mine to around 2500 or 2600 shoot 2 8 shot magazines and refill. That's the sweet spot in the power curve and it's a breeze to pump that way.

This is a good write up on it. He pretty much says the same thing about the fill pressure except he shoots 30 shots between fills. I find that my accuracy is better at longer ranges if I hold it to 16 shots. I like to shoot heavier pellets too. It's a 12-13 foot pound plinker anyway you look at it. It wasn't designed for power, but it it does what it does well in a handy little package.
