DAISY 1938 Replica - Red Ryder BB Rifle

Have any of you bought one of these Daisy rifles lately?

Are they still made well?

The one that I am talking about is the one with the cowboy on it and it is the 1938 replica version.

I used to own two of these and bought them around 2000 or so.

I passed them on to my late husband's best friend for two of his grandchildren. The man was like an older brother to me too.

That is one thing that I never had as a kid. My dad would take me shooting with the Springfield .22 starting when I was about nine, but I never had a BB gun.

I have one and love it. And yes they are still about the same low quality as ever.

I never had one as a kid. I was 50 years old in 2000 and that is around the time frame that I bought mine! I already had most of my other $$$ guns at the time but I never had a bb gun.

I loved to shoot mine in my driveway. I had paper targets on a nice wooden frame that my late husband built for me PLUS I had a large metal coffee can that sat on something that I used to plink too.

I had farm fields and some woods all around my one acre of land so I was safe shooting there.

That GUN was fun to shoot! I loved to shoot that gun. It was not an Olympic style air gun that I saw some people shoot up close to Camp Perry (OHCC) but it was a cool gun.

My late husband used to sit by one set of the big windows in the den and hear me PLINK in the evening. He moved his Lazy Boy chair forward a bit so he could watch me too. I had a huge Colorado Blue Spruce tree by that one set of big windows.

Great story Cate. I have an old metal perking coffee pot hanging from a tree about 10 meters outside the hobby room window. Sometimes in the winter I'll open the window and plink at the coffee pot. Its great cause you can really hear it plink.

Oh yeah... I LOVE to hear the plinking too.

At our range... I love to shoot the gongs. I love the perp paper targets (I used to call them that and shoot them back east.) and other paper targets but I love to shoot the gongs.

My husband belongs to Big Sky PSC and they have other types of targets but we have not used them in ages and ages.

My daughter gave me one for Christmas 2010. I am A Christmas Story Junkie so someday I am going to get a full sized Leg Lamp to go with it.
It is the 70 year anniversary model... The only thing I can see that makes it "special" is the packaging. And a sticker on the stock.
I had not taken it out of the package till now, don't know why. But you gave me a good reason to, I was trying to take a picture of the stock and the glare was awful.

You made me smile and laugh here. The leg lamp!

My husband loves that movie too. I bought him the dvd of it several years ago. He watches it once or twice a year.

We have about five or so classic Christmas movies here at home. He told me that his Christmas movie stays here and does not get donated to the library.

I have one. Got it several years ago for less than thirty bucks. For the money it is great. Love to shoot it off hand at 10 or 15 yards. It sure helped me through the rimfire ammo "shortage". I got my daughter one back about 2000. She got into a lot of fun mischief with hers and it was accurate as well. She still has it and it holds as important spot in her home as a .30-30 rifle would....and we have never shot our eye out!!!! Yet!!

The 1938 is a great gun to teach children to shoot . If you want the very best target BB gun made get the Daisy 499 with Avanti BB's . This a serous gun not a toy and it is under $139 . I shoot and enjoy this gun more then any other gun I own .

Heck no...had to reload 13 times.

I just got mine out and was shouldering it. TGR made me think I should shoot it more.

Sir Henry ...........Go to Ace hardware and get some 3M tread non-slip stair strips . They come in width with glue tape on them . It is like sandpaper and works good on BB guns for a butt stock pad and keeps the gun in your shoulder without slipping .

Good idea. I've been plinking at an old coffee pot hanging in a cherry tree.

Is there a way to lighten the trigger?
