That's what I like about AG's -you can plink or target shoot almost anywhere. I leave my Red Ryder outside most of the time and will sometimes shoot off 50 rounds just walking past it. Going to the range amounts to a half hour loading up, 45 minutes driving, 15 minutes unloading at the range and setting up targets. Then its another 15 minute job packing up, 45 minutes driving home, another 15 minutes unloading and then 30 minutes resetting.

Another plus is being able to just step inside and warm up if it's cold outside. We packed up and drove to the range, today, to do some work with the 1911s. Snow squalls and cold north winds made it a short range session. Pleased with the results, but thought I would never warm back up. Shooting isn't much of an aerobic activity.

I actually like cold weather shooting. If you noticed in winters past when I was staying in Ephrata I would go in sub-freezing weather. Somewhere in the single digits it doesn't seem fun anymore but up to that point I'm game.

If the sun i shining, I can take a lot more cold, but we don't get many sunny days in our winters.

The sun always shines in Ephrata but the wind also always blows. I purpose built two Henrys for cold weather. Both are sparingly oiled and I sealed the wood and cover. It won't be very easy to take apart but I only shoot them in cold weather. I've had some Henrys fail me when it gets down to single digits.

Don't forget about sling shots John posted about. I often take a sling shot with me when I go hiking.

Thanks for the reminder on the sling shots. Still need to squeeze that kind of shooting in, somewhere. What a great survival weapon.

I haven't gotten to the range much at all this year. Since I moved, the downstairs airgun range has disappeared. I'm working on a solution. Winter is approaching.

This thread (and NCG's description/photo's of her TX200 HC) has really opened my eyes to the airgun world. I was going to pick up another Henry for X-mas, but after doing some online research, I am now seriously considering going with a high quality airgun instead. I'm an avid 22LR shooter(3 Rugers, 2 Henrys) with a homemade 50yd range, but plinking off the back porch with a nice springer airgun sounds like a fantastic idea. Got my eye on a scoped Beeman R-9 in .177 - I like quality German engineering. For NCG - do you think this a good way to go?
