357 SWC at rifle velocity?

Post by Oldbrass » Sun Oct 11, 2020 12:36 pm

I've got quite a few (Lazercast) 158 hardcast SWC/hot dose of W296 loaded for a a ruger GP100. These are not gas checked and am concerned about bore leading. Anybody try these in a lever gun?

Lazer cast bullets are quite hard like 21+ Bhn and you should be good to 1500 FPS.

Shoot some and see. Take some jacketed with you to shoot after you have shot a bunch if you see any leading in the barrel after shooting them.

Shall do just that big al, I've also got piles of 158 XTP. I just ordered some Sierra 158 JSP also (precision reloading) actually has them in stock. We'll see who the winner is. I really like playing with new toys!

Holy moly . my Sierra data for 158 JSP for handgun is 17.3 gr W296 max load.. rifle data is 20.4 gr W296 max load @ 2100 FPS 1224 ft lb. I'll be sure to label "RIFLE ONLY" sorry all I'm just typing to myself !

Oops this is 125 gr data, for to many things going at once, step away from the loading bench and take a brake
