Update on my reloading quest........

Post by MoDug » Fri Aug 14, 2020 1:20 am

As suggested by you guys, I read up on reloading and learned that there is ALOT to learn! Thanks for your encouragement. I also ran across some great articles about Elmer Keith, the Father of the 44Mag. I also spent a good deal speaking to one of my neighbors, and avid reloader. He insisted that I don’t buy any equipment until I spend some time with him. He has offered to show me the ropes of pistol caliber reloading.
So I stopped by one of the local shops early in the week, shelves are slowing returning to normal. Primers, Powder back in stock. Also most factory ammo available — they are limiting number of boxes, though.
I bought 300 primers, pound of powder and 2 boxes of bullets.
I will be heading over to his house in the morning to work up a couple of hundred rounds. I think am getting off to a good start!

Yes you are off to a good start and a good mentor is a big plus. However, do not escape from reading some good reloading manuals and especially the safety recommendations they have to offer. I have been handloading since 1970 and know many who do but I'll say this upfront, I have seen some take short cuts or not follow good guidelines of safety. So beware and have fun.

working with an experienced loader can most certainly be a major asset for someone who is just getting started .... I'd recommend you take advantage of spending time with any other experienced reloaders you my find .... also, compare what you see/hear with other sources like youtube .... by doing so you can put together a process that works best for you
