Well folks, seeing as I'm now doing the waiting game for new handgun, I'm asking here for some of your own handload for said cartridge. Think I'll be trying these two to start: 6.5-7.0gr Universal/250gr rnfp. 6.2-6.5gr Unique same bullet. Thoughts?
Have plenty of manuals, simply getting ideas. New toys are sooo much fun!

OH BOY RT, What R you getting? I love my 45 Colts.

So here is how I load. For my wheel guns I stay away from cast and shoot only Jacketed bullets (I shoot cast out of my Henry though).

Wheel Guns: Ruger Blackhawk 5.5 inch barrel
El Patron 5.5 inch barrel

Below are three targets with powder/bullet/velocity info. The first two are 250 grain Hornady XTP JHP one using Unique the other with Bullseye. Velocity between the two powders was pretty consistent. the third is 200 grain Hornady XTP JHP


All three are at 30 yards from the standing position.

r-n-g, I bought a EMF Pietta(1873 Colt clone), CCH frame, 4.75" barrel and it comes with a .45acp cylinder also. This will fit my handgun shooting well I believe. Looking forward to it.

Outstanding, Pietta makes a nice revolver. I know you are going to have a lot of fun with it ! Post up the picts when it comes in.

I got the ACP cylinder for my blackhawk also, you know just in case I run outta ammo and I'm surrounded. Have not tried it yet.

For my revolver I like 6.6gn Universal and 200 gr LRNFP. Nice easy load on the machinery, and I get decent results.

I have found that the ol' favorite 8-8.5 gr. Unique works very well with a 250-255 gr. cast lead bullet in revolver and rifle.
Now Red Dot seems to work well in the revolvers also with 6.0 gr. and a 250 gr. bullet.

Have fun loading and shooting with that new revolver!

Runnin gunnin....that is intresting about your loads. What happens when you use cast lead bullets in your revolver?
They should shoot fine if your cylinder throats are .452-.4525 with a .452 diameter lead bullet.

Hey 40, no problem with the bullets, I just get tired of cleaning the leading off the cylinder and between the barrel throat and back strap. Just lazy!

I normally just shoot my 255 gr. Keith style SWC cast bullets with 8.5 grains of Unique but lately been going a bit over the recommended max of 8.5 grains and taking it to 9.0 grains for both my Ruger New Model Blackhawk and my Marlin 1894. Velocity averages 1160 fps. out of the Marlin. It is quite accurate in both my rifle and revolver and gives me a little more ummph for the White Tail deer that I am going to get with it this year.

I found that in my Ruger at least that the 45acp cylinder is very accurate. Even more so that the 45 Colt cylinder.

That is interesting. I will have to bring out the ACP cylinder next time I shoot.

I have one of those, and I have never compared one vs the other.
I'll have to try that out.

Its funny, I have a 3 screw .357 Blackhawk with a 9mm cylinder I bought in 1971 and I have never tried that one either? Don't know what Im waiting for.

My Ruger Bisley BH has the .45 ACP swap cylinder also and I have used it a couple times and it seems to shoot well.
But when you got a big ol' beefy SA 6 shooter for .45 Colt I prefer the .45 Colt rounds!

Oh, I'll be shooting them both. A lot! When it decides to cool down some. Be fun to see my .45acp loads work out of those two very different guns. Fall ain't that far off.

He just might notice it Monday morning! Then before you know what happened it's Saturday again. The retirement time warp!

Its going to take some time to see but right now I feel like the weight of the world is gone. Axis no more. My wife loves the RV life and she is the best thing that has ever happened to me. When you spend 30 years taken care of the elderly like she did you know theres an angel inside. Believe me I have seen how she was with the elderly. That is a business with little or no respect to the workers.

I guess I might be the only one using 4227 for .45LC loads. Also use it for my .44 spcl loads. Edit: with 250 gr XTP Hornady bullets. I use 20.6 gr for the 45LC and 15.6 gr for .44 spcl. with a Nosler 200 gr jhp.

I'm still experimenting with 4227 but so far, I have been getting better accuracy with my Unique loads. I have a friend that tried 4227 but gave up on it after not having much success. Guns sure are different as to what they like.

I'm still experimenting with 4227 but so far, I have been getting better accuracy with my Unique loads. I have a friend that tried 4227 but gave up on it after not having much success. Guns sure are different as to what they like.

Both of mine are Ruger's. I have the convertible .45 LC/ 45 ACP and the .44 is the Ruger GP100 TALO
