Like a dumbazz I dropped my can of RCBS spray case lube and broke the little stem off at the nozzle!

Well, with about a half can left I wasn't going to waste it so I relieved the rest of the air pressure out of the can, took it out to my bandsaw and cut a slot in the can to pour out the remainder.

When I did I recognized the smell but couldn't put a name to it so I queried alternative case lube and read one entry about using Mink oil!

WELL - I suddenly realized that's what the smell was but the RCBS stuff was a lot thinner and has always 'dried up' on the cases after applying but left a very thin layer.

I read on and another story told about mixing certain lubes with alcohol and putting them in a small hand sprayer to apply and I suspect this is all the RCBS stuff is.

Conclusion? I am going to make my own spray lube next time!

Back in the late 60's, when I first started reloading, I used Neats foot oil. It worked fine, had to wipe it off, but, all I had at the time.
"Another" old codger clued me in on that.

I ran across that recipe for spray lube also on the other site that I visit, great site, by the way, especially for us bullet casters.
Anyhow, I just made that lube up because I want to size a lot of rifle brass and want to speed up that process of lubing the cases. There are certain precautions to take though , less you want beat over the head with a frying pan by the better half. My experiences of making up the spray lube will follow.
The recipe is this: 1 oz. of pure liquid lanolin and 12 oz. of 99% Iso alcohol mixed together into a spray bottle. ( easy part).
I bought a 4 oz bottle of the liquid lanolin at the health food store, about $9.00. I marked the 4 inch tall bottle off into 1 inch increments to equal 1 oz. segments. Do this marking before you heat the bottle up in boiling water ,like you are supposed to. Please, boiling water is still just as hot as when we were kids.
My 99% Iso Alcohol came in the form of the 12 oz. HEET fuel injection cleaner ( red bottle) from the Auto Zone store. It is 99% Iso Alcohol. cost a couple bucks.
Bought the 18 oz. spray bottle from a drug store. That little rip off cost me $ 4.00 because my wife wouldn't let me use our fly spray bottle for the horses.
These two bottles have to be heated up in order for them to mix together completely. ( DO NOT DO THIS OVER AN OPEN FLAME ) . That's why the boiling water with lids remaining on the bottles.
Stick your empty spray bottle in a coffee cup so that it does not tip over while you pour the alcohol and lanolin into it. Wise to use a funnel too.
Now for the bad part. First, is your wife reading this also, if so, try and get her to watch her favorite soap box show before I go on.
I found that my small bottle of lanolin had swelled on the bottom so now it will not stand up on it's own and you can't spin it like a top. It also leaked just a little bit into the boiling water of my wife's wonderful sauce pan. Yes, a little goes a very long way. I am sure you heard that statement before.
Next I grabbed a hot pad and went to pour the lanolin into the new spray bottle but my old shaking hands cause a slight tremor over the nice clean counter where my newly opened can of pop was sitting while I was watching the water boil. Yuk! I did manage to get an ounce into the spray bottle though.
Next, I unscrewed the lid on the HEET so that I could pour the whole 12 oz. bottle into the spray bottle. Darn tremors, some also went onto my can of pop and onto the table to mix with what little lanolin I had on the counter. Did I say little as in a little goes a long way? People, this takes a lot of paper towels. Please don't use the wife's good dish towels. I don't know what happened to ours after this. I think the dog ate them. What the wife won't know won't hurt her, right ?...RIGHT ?
You know that sauce pan, coffee cup and anything else that was on the stove or counter top that came into my mixture caused by the earthquake of tremors ? Three days later and we are still trying to wash the slippery off of those things. Notice that I said we.

On a good note, this mixture is said to be the same as the Dillon lube spray and will go a long way, as long as the wife doesn't kill you first.

Some things best left to a factory enviroment! I have a tube of Lee lube and a little goes a long way. I only use it on .45-70 cases.

Ain't that the truth. I am probably lucky that I walked away from that one alive.

it's an excellent lube for brass !

Liquid Lanolin 10% -> 20%
Isopropylic Alcool 90% -> 80%
