ruhler,
I found the velocity restriction for hunting very interesting. Is it for moose only or deer and boar as well? Is it country-wide?
With the 444 Marlin there are not a lot of loads that will get you safely enough into the 2000 fps range to pick from. Although, as Vaquero mentioned, a 265 jsp would get you there using N130 assuming at least a 24" barrel (from the Hornady manual and N133 from the Lyman Manual)
Otherwise, I use a 300 grain XTP, but I don't have the minimum velocity restriction. The FTX looks like a good choice. I've not used them on deer since the 300 does the trick for me and no need to keep cases separate.
Good luck.
Sorry for the misunderstanding. :)
Its Countrywide restrictions (its pretty much same rules in Scandinavia) rules are not set by velocity its energy at 100meters so as a reloader you need to know ballistic to know how much velocity you have/need from your rifle.
Class1 expanding bullet with atleast 2000joule @100meters with atleast 155grain, Or 2700joule for atleast 139grain up to 154grain @100m. game are moose, bear, wildboar, elk and such. Allowed on all legal game. The rules are set at Basically its the 6.5x55 Swede caliber setting the lower limit.
Class2 is 800joule@100meters expanding bullet with atleast 50grain. allowed game roedeer,lynx,beaver and such, caliber like 44mag, 222, 223, 243,
Class3 is 200joule@100meters fmj allowed, allowed game such as fox, grouse, hare caliber such as 22hornet, 22wm,
class4 is 150joule at the muzzle, rabbit, marten, tarmagan, caliber 22lr, 17hornet

Got a hold of half a box of hornady 265gr JSP but thats all I can get. About the 300gr XTP got some of those aswell, I probably need N130 to load that bullet. Its pretty much empty shells with suited 44bullets here. Would like to have woodleigh 280gr but factory burned down. Will cast some more bullets in the summer NOE 265gr and 310gr Lee RNFP mostly loaded them up in 44mag, hopefully my alloy work at 444 velocity or I need to add some linotype to that alloy. 😀 Would want a NOE 300gr rnfp mold but it seems sold out.

Limited bullet availability makes things a bit more complicated. But 265FTX is a good bet. Some of those 300 gr. XTPs will get enough vel/energy out to 100 meters.
(We fought a revolution to be free of Imperial power, but we still use their measuring system. So to save folks from converting, 2000 joules = 1,475 pound-feet and 100 meters is 109 yards.)

With the 444 Marlin that's workable with your 265 grain FTX and 300 XTPs according to the ballistics chart. Need the right powder. You could end up using a lot of your small supply finding a nice grouping load. So I feel you're under a bit of pressure to find a good one quickly.

Thanks for explaining the regulations. I see now you have one more (minimum) metric to meet when working up a hunting load.
Again, best of luck and I hope your (and our) shortages of components ends soon. :)

Just bought a CZ Redhead Premier Target RnG in 20 ga. Also have another Redhead Premier in 20. Like the new Target model better because it fits me better with the different stock. To me its just as nice as the Beretta Silver Pigeon and 1k less.
