I'd like to add a 44Mag solid copper 240 gr bullet to our loading options .... Nosler doesn't offer one so I need to check out other manufactures .... what checking I have done clearly shows they are expensive so I'd appreciate recommendations from folks who have tested and use them .... example : Cutting Edge .44 240gr Handgun Solid HG Solids sell for something over $1 each

Do you have a specific need for a solid copper bullet?

Surprised at the price/round, Jim. What makes this product so spendy? Because it's lead-free? Or is it accuracy and/or improved performance? Cutting Edge web site states they are "superior to jacketed lead core bullets."

I know that the manufactured .45 Colt ammo I buy is not cheap. With some diligent shopping, I recently bought 250 rounds of hand-loaded ammo, at cost of $0.49/round --- included the almost $17 shipping fee. If I could have walked into that shop to buy, cost would have been $0.42/round.

Curious as usual.

specific need --- Nope .... I do have an outstanding reason, that being, I want one .... I'm in the process of working up lead free hunting loads for use in all of our hunting firearms .... I do believe that the trend of getting away from lead bullets continues, it might prove to be wise to have a plan B

I Lehigh (sp?) Defence has a selection of monolithic bullets engineered for different end results.
I believe they have all the large hand gun calibers.
It's not inexpensive.

No help on the Cuttingedge bullet, but, have heard those Lehigh bullets are superb penatrators. I've only used[only a few] of the Barnes 140gr XPB bullet. Those Lehigh's get a lot of talk tho.

recommendation appreciated .... the .429 Xtreme Penetrator 220gr Bullet loaded for a 44 Mag is most certainly worth consideration .... they are priced about the same as the Cutting Edge .44 240gr's .... I also like the way they provide a link on their website (below) which gives load data

Copper is expensive and some of those bullets require machining time which adds to cost.

absolutely .... for us, the good news is the purchase of a couple of boxes of 357's and 44's could realistically last us a couple or more generations of bullets .... with rifles/revolvers we know and use, it often take less than 20 rounds to come up with a load for a new bullet .... once that happens we record the scope adjustments needed to move our point of impact from one bullet to the next .... we will then make 20 or so rounds to have on hand .... combined, a box of 50 bullets will put a few into our stock inventory .... that is the reason we usually try to start out with buying a couple of boxes

Interesting thread. We will all have to face non lead bullets eventually. It's a good time to learn what works and what doesn't.

This is what I did in Ca. when the state started talking of all out ban on lead for hunting. That very thing started here 7/1/2019. STATEWIDE. Target practice with lead fine. For now. I simply threw in the towel and only chase upland birds.
Some here, mostly in Idaho. Back on topic, sorry, the Barnes TTSX bullets I've tied are fantastic shooters. It's Ca regs I gave up on.
