one good thing about time spent recovering from a knee transplant has been having the time to get ready to spend some time on the range .... so far, shown below :

blue boxes, 110 rounds of various loads for our 45-70 .... a fairly wide range of hunting/practice, lead/jacketed, 350 to 500 grs, our reloads/a few factory rounds, .... sufficient rounds to run through a chrony and to test for grouping

red box, 25 rounds .... 308 .... 150 gr Nosler Ballistic Tips .... test loads for something over 200 deer/antelope hunting rounds for one of my wife's brothers in South Dakota .... loaded him a bunch several years ago .... since then it has take both deer & antelope at ranges out to something over 300 yards .... he's got enough for this fall but and he needs more .... the load was originally developed for our early edition Browning BLR where it has proven effective on deer, black bear, and boar

the green box, 101 rounds .... 300 WBY Mag .... the 300 WBY is one heck of a cartridge .... as a point of reference, our 45-70 bullets are pushed by 37 to 44 grains of IMR 4198 .... the 300's are pushed by 84.5 grains of IMR 7828 .... I prefer 180 gr Nosler Ballistic tips (the green tipped bullets) and 180 gr Nosler Accubond (the white tipped bullets) .... the 6 black tipped bullets are 180 gr Nosler Partitions that were loaded 40+ years ago .... my main goal in firing them based on curiosity and a desire to empty the brass

before I actually get back out to a range, I hope to add some 30-30's and 30-06's

Cool! Although I no longer hunt, getting ready for hunting season is something I still feel the urge to do. Great tradition. Would love to see some of the rifles that shoot these loads.

none of our firearms are safe queens, they were all mass produced to work for a living ....

we have others in the vault but the ones shown above are used, cleaned, and put back the most .... we reload ammo for all of our centerfire rifles and handguns

so am I .. .. my hope it to be able to spend some time over the weekend on a range but it seems that family often has plans that pop up

I just picked up some Benchmark powder to try with these 400gr Speer bullets. Hope to have some results fairly soon.
