I plan to buy 2 boxes of Beartooth .432-250gr WFNGC bullets for use in reloading for my Henry .44 Mag BB. I am hoping to work up safe loads that will generate around 1,500 FPS velocity. I have on hand ample inventories of powders I have used in loading Hornady 240 gr XTPHP bullets for my S&W .44 Mag Model 29 Classic revolver - 6" barrel. Please advise if you have used any of the following powders for .44 BB loads with 240 - 260 gr hard cast bullets along with the results you attained. The powder weights listed are about what I think I need to achieve a velocity of 1,500 FPS.

(1) Accurate #9 - 18grs, (2) Accurate # 2 - 9grs, (3) IMR 4198 - 14 grs, (4) Universal - 9grs, (5) Clays - 9grs

of the powders listed, the only one I have any experience with is IMR 4198 .... I have found it to be an excellent powder for pushing a fairly wide range of lead and jacketed bullets out of our 45-70 .... in our 44 mag, we use H110 or W296 for jacketed 240 g bullets (our chrony shows 23.8 g gives us 1,725 fps +/-) .... we use 11.7 g of Unique for 240 g lead bullets (1,482 fps +/-) .... having no experience with 250 g bullets, I'm really looking forward seeing the recommendations you get in this thread

I don't use any of those powders. but have seen loading info for a couple of them for 44 mag.

Check the Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook for loads for that bullet.

I have used AA#9 in my .44 Big Boy. I have had good results using a 240 grain XTP JHP over 20.3 grains of AA#9. I have not used any cast bullets in this rifle.
I use H-4198 powder for loads in my .45-70 but never have used it for .44 loads. I really like it for .45-70 loads.

I hope you have better luck than I did when ordering Beartooth bullets. I ordered some and ended up canceling because after about 6 weeks I had no bullets and not even a customer service update as to when I would have them. As far as loads go you will just need to experiment with what you have as no 2 44's will be alike. But I would think between Universal and the AA#9 you should come u with something. Al

Big Al, Thanks for your reply to my 9/9/2017 posting on Accurate #9 and .44 Mag Bear Tooth bullets for my .44 Mag BB. You cautioned me to be patient in waiting for deliveries from Bear Tooth. On 9/11 I ordered 2 boxes of bullet from them and they arrived today which is about 8.5 weeks from the date of my order. I follow-up twice with the on expected delivery date. On both occasions, a very nice lady in their office explained to me that 8 weeks is the best they can do because of their order backlog. I went back to their website and their order backlog situation is explained there. I suspect they only produce to orders that are on "on the book" and that helps them manage their inventory and cash flow.

asking because I really have no clue, what sets Beartooth bullets aside from other cast bullets from companies like Oregon Trail and Missouri Bullet Company
