.41 mag score!
Went to a local gun show this weekend and scored some .41 new brass and a pound of 2400 both for a fourty dollar bill. Both these items are usually very hard to find around here. Time to break out the press again!

Found a nice mid range load using a 225 coated cast bullet from Missouri bullet company and 16.5 grains of 2400. The 5 shot average came in at 1214 fps.

Your welcome.dmanwarren wrote:Rugerfanboy, thanks for the link!

I know these are two different magnum cartridges....but I reload for my 44 magnum (Ruger RedHawk 5.5" barrel) and a medium load for it....is 8.5gr of Winchester 231....yielding a velocity of 1003 for the average for a 240gr coated SWC. I would have thought with 16.5gr of 2400....your average velocity would have yielded a higher than 1214 fps for the 225gr coated cast bullet. You bullet is even 15gr lighter than mine, I would have hoped for a higher average velocity and your cartridge case has a smaller inside density factor, so pressure is on your side to aid in a higher velocity. If that all the velocity that 2400 is gonna give you. I'd switch to some other powder like Hodgdon H110 or Winchester 231. That way, you'd get a better bang for the money that you spent. You could even switch to Winchester 231 and use half the powder and save money. But....if you switch to Hodgdon H110, you'll have to use a magnum primer cause it a slow burning power which it rates #63 on the burn rate chart. Just something to think about.dmanwarren wrote:Found a nice mid range load using a 225 coated cast bullet from Missouri bullet company and 16.5 grains of 2400. Re: .41 mag score!
I have to agree with rugerfanboy. That velocity seems a little low. What barrel length are you using? I just loaded up some 41 mag for my BBS using the same coated 225gr bullet as you. I went with 19.6gr of h-110 which is pretty close to minimum load for that powder. Haven't had a chance to shoot them yet but I would expect to see about 1600 fps. I will update after I get some range time.
