Renewed interest in reloading!

Hey all, here is a quick story about my renewed interest in reloading. To start off with I now own 2 weapons in .41 mag so if I'm going to shoot much I knew I would have to get into reloading. Dec. 15 of last year my dad passed away and I have been finding myself thinking back to the good ole days when we shot a lot and reloaded. I did the shotshells and he did the centerfire as he had a rule that you had to be 21 to reload the rifle cartridges and at the time I was a teenager. In the last month as I've been talking to my mom she told me to do something with all the hunting stuff that was packed in the basement. As I was going through things I came across two boxes of reloading stuff including presses and the spark was instantly there to use them! I took the plunge and ordered the components I needed to make this old Herters press run the .41 mag and today I worked up my first 20 cartridges to be tested out in the near future

As an added bonus I found a 12 gauge press that didn't mean much to me back in my teenage years when I was using it but now that dad is gone and knowing he made it from scratch it is a prized possession. He was a metal and welding instructor for a community college for 17 years before going into business for himself. I believe the only component he did not make was the final crimper. Thanks for looking, Dave

Enjoy using your Dad's reloading tools. When you use them, remember, there will always be another pair of hands on the press.

Thanks for sharing your memories and your father's story with us. It sounds like you're going to enjoy reloading more than many of us do. Keep us posted! I'd love to read more.

Thanks everyone, now I can't wait to find the recipe I like and pump out a bunch more. I've been saving brass for years. According to my mom my grandfather on her side was a reloader too and helped get my father started. He is the one on the right.

Looks like a good Herter's press in the photo. I am still using two of their presses that I started loading with in 1969.
