I recently bought some new brass in both 44 mag and 45/70. All from Starline.

Do you folks use new brass as is out of the box?

Or do you clean it 1st to get rid of any mill oils ect?

I haven't loaded with new brass in a very long time.

for me it depends on what the ammo will be used for .... for hunting or self defense rounds, I run it through a cleaner, resize it, hand weigh each powder charge .... in short for the hunting and self defense ammo, I use a single stage press and make a strong effort to put out identical rounds .... for practice ammo, I take the brass straight out of the box and run it through our Hornday multiple stage press

I generally just load em up, but have found the trim length needs to be checked and can be .010"- .020 difference from specs.

Recently bought some Starline. Found no need to clean the cases as there was no residue on them. I did resize them prior to loading.

Starline is the only new brass that I have ever bought. I just resize them and load em up. Never had any problems.

Like the others I just run them thru the size die and load them up. When new though I do chamfer the case mouth on Starline as when running them thru the dillon they tend to hang up. Someone also told me to tumble clean them for a while as they also load easier when new. I havent bought any starline for a while but I need to try that. I usually look for once fired brass for reloading. Al

Thanks for the input. I always sized and check the trim on my cases. So that much gets done anyway. Maybe I'll throw them in the vibrator for a few minutes just to shine them up! I like pretty ammo!

Can't go wrong with new Starline.
