Gonna make some loads for my friend, Planning to use CFE Pistol powder.
Anyone use this for 45LC ? Also have 250g XTP bullets. For some reason on the Hodgdon loading
site, it did not show 45 LC in rifle data, 44 Mag was there, but CFE was not, but is under pistol
I've been using 11.4g CFE w/240gJSP for target w/VERY good accuracy in 44.
And in 45 pistol data, CFE has the highest MV of all the powders at about 1000fps

I'd be interested in how this project goes. I'm still on the fence about reloading. Just newbie apprehension I think.

But, I really hope you're saving your spent brass, RR; because you will eventually fall on the side of the fence where there's a reloading bench and I'm willing to bet that when you do, you will wonder why you didn't do it sooner.

It doesnt take long at 45 colt store bought ammo prices to pay for the loading equipment. Been loadin for 40 years now and there is times with certain ammo that its not as big of gain as it use to be but I still enjoy the fact of tayloring the ammo to the gun you have. Al

Oh I'm sure I'll get there one day. I'll keep saving brass 'til then.

I ALWAYS save brass, when I go to the indoor range w/Wife, she picks up anything shiny
I end up w/all kinds of stuff I don't use and more of what I do
Hope to get some info. from this, but if not, I'll tell you how it goes.
My friend has a BBB 45 and is planning to hunt dear w/it, should be a good recipe

Your gonna have to get your powder charge load data from pistol data. The only difference between a pistol and rifle data is the velocity. The weapon does not determine the load....the cartridge does.....cause the cartridge will determine how much internal volume will be used. But I will say this about the rifle data. On a rifle, you can down load the data cause of the barrel length cause the powder has more time to yield a more complete burn which will still get the pressure inside to have a complete burn. Many folks will do this cause you still get a complete burn, cartridge pressure is at the level that it needs to be for a complete burn, accuracy is still good and the best part is, the shooter does not have allot of the felt recoil. But, you have to choose the right powder for this application. Cause we all know, barrel length is not first thing that comes into play here. Burn rate is determined by the chemicals and elements that make up the powder. Cartridge pressure is next and then barrel length comes into play. Even barrel length can actually slow down the burn rate if you choose the wrong powder for it's burn rate. This is why powder manufactures publish load data in a start load and then a max load. What this is called....working up a load....also known as a ladder test.

With the amount of money your spending on factory ammo. That money could be saved to recap what you spent for the reloading equipment. This savings could also render you the option of buying another Henry rifle.
