Where is all the brass???

Post by Stets » Sun Feb 19, 2023 3:36 pm

45 70 brass is nonexistent it seems. I don't get why such a common caliber isn't more readily available..
.
Don't listen to people that say you don't need more guns and ammo. No one needs that kind of negativity in their lives!!

Well, it is an antique caliber.
Think I saw some for sale over on castboolits a few days back.
Might check the Marlinowners site also, and
probably some on gunbroker. ;)

Locally there hasn't been any brass for 380, 45 ACP, 45 Colt, 30-30 for more than a couple years. But there has been lots of 357 even through the recent ammo/reloading supply shortage.

When I get the next notification from Midway that Starline .45 Colt is in stock I'll drop everything and order quickly. Beggars can't be choosers but Starline is my favorite and if that's not available I'll just get by with what I've got.

The only brass that I’ve been able to find (for anything I reload for…..) lately seems to come with a primer, powder and projectile already in it. The majority of my .30-30 brass I have has come from shooting factory rounds.

Don’t know how that works out for the .45-70 tho…….

Ain't that the truth!!! :o

While at the LGS today I noticed they had a box of LeverEvolution (325 grainers) and some Winchester 300 grainers, both in .45-70. $47 for the LeverEvolution, and $55 for the Winchester!

brass and bullet zone sent out an email concerning once fired. I've purchased from them in the past and have been happy.

I seen a bunch on castboolits.gunloads.com, but a buck a piece is too rich for my wallet. I'm glad a few guys came through with decent, reasonable offers when I needed some. I have enough for quite some time now. Good luck.

Starline had the brass available on their website a few weeks ago.

I got lucky - there was an auction 2 miles from my house this weekend. The amount of reloading stuff was stunning. I got 400 .357 Winchester brass, 400 Starline .44 brass, 800 .357 XTP’s, 400 .44 XTP’s - the whole lot was about half what you could order it for from the box stores. Since it was a sale from a local shop there were a bunch of resellers and small shop owners there. They were stocking for their stores. I should have taken pics. Friday night, Saturday from 9-7 and today from noon to 7. The other half of the auction is in May. But the reloading, black powder, knives, scopes, fishing gear are gone. Next is trapping, scope mounts, holsters, etc. There was about every caliber of brass there (mainstream calibers and a few others). 45/70 was one of them.

I'm short on brass. I have plenty of ammo. Hmmm, maybe I should free up some of the brass from that ammo. 😊

I am waiting on Starline back orders for 45 colt and 300Hamr. I have enough of both to keep shooting but it would be nice to have some new brass.
