300 Blackout experience?
300 Blackout experience?
I just picked up a 300 BO in an AR platform and will be loading for it. Use is general shooting and personal defense and I plan to stay supersonic using bullets in the 100 - 150 grain range, give or take. Anybody have any experience loading for this caliber?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: 300 Blackout experience?
I do, a very small bit.
My go to powder is 1680,
What twist is your barrel? What gas length?
I am running on a carbine lengths gas tube with IIRC 1:10. Mine stabilizes 110 to 220's. As for accuracy, I go with 110's for supers and 190 to 220 for subs.
For subs, the Hornaday 190 subx.
For coated lead, Eggleston bullets provide a 220 grn lrn that has a coating. This works well in my can. I tested it with my form 1 can and was able to verify there isn't a whole bunch of build up.

Re: 300 Blackout experience?
None with AR platform Hatch but I had one of those Ruger American Ranch rifle in 300. I had the later model that used the magpul type mag. Lilgun and 296 worked for me with that Speer 125 TNT HP bullet. That bullet shot real well in mine. The 147gr Hornady FMJ bullet was the biggest bullet I used. They shot well and you use to be able to buy them in bulk. Not sure havent looked lately to see if there is any around.

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

Re: 300 Blackout experience?
Great info guys, thank you.
16” barrel with a 1:7 twist and a pistol length gas tube.
Looking at my Hornady manual it looks like 296, H110 and 2400 are powders I have on hand that the 300 likes. I’ll see if I can find some 1680 and maybe some CFE BLK too. I like that Hornady 147 idea, I load the 155 FMJBT for my M1-A and will give some of those a try. Be nice to use the same bullet in both rifles. Grafs repacks the 155 in 200 packs that are pretty reasonable in price.
Interesting my Speer and Sierra manuals don’t have data for the 300 BO. My Speer isn’t the latest but it’s recent and my Sierra was new last year.
Al, I bet that Ruger bolt gun is a lot of fun with this cartridge.

Re: 300 Blackout experience?
check your sierra again, I've got the 6th edition 3rd printing, and 300 blackout is in there starting at page 618.
It is often called 300 AAC, or 300 AAC blackout, 300 whisper

Re: 300 Blackout experience?
My manuals are a little bit older than I thought. I do have a form to send to Sierra for update sheets to put in the binder so I’ll do that today. I did see some Sierra 300 data online in the same format as the book. Nice feature of the Sierra book being in a binder.DsGrouse wrote: ↑Mon Jan 30, 2023 4:29 pmcheck your sierra again, I've got the 6th edition 3rd printing, and 300 blackout is in there starting at page 618.

Nosler (3 tabs 100, 147, 220 gr) https://www.nosler.com/300-aac-blackout
Nothing close to subsonic (less than 1100 ft/sec at sea level). Even minimum loads are nearly double that.

I emailed Sierra yesterday for a manual supplement but they don’t offer that anymore. But the tach did send me all the 300 BO data that I was able to print. It’s formatted the same size as the pages in my manual so I will be able to trim and punch the sheets and put them in the binder just like the old supplement. Kudos to Sierra for very prompt response to my needs.
Yesterday in my travels I found a pound of AA1680 and I’m meeting a guy on Saturday who is giving me a great deal on a pound of CFE BLK ($30). So with these two additions and my 296, H110 and 2400 I think I’m good to go. Got notice from Starline and my brass will be delivered on Friday.
Hmmm, now if I could only get my hands on the rifle. It’s in the background check jail this state requires for all semi-auto rifles. Probably be another week of waiting.

Re: 300 Blackout experience?
That sounds like a good start. Berry's also has pretty good prices on 220 grain plated bullets
