Are gas checks really that important. Do they help increase velocity and accuracy. Are they intended for softer alloy or for harder bullets. Thanks Johnny..

Gas checks allow hard cast lead bullets to be shot at higher velocities because the check provides protection to the base from the powder burn. There importance is protecting the bullet base from being deformed.

I like my gas checks. Can't really see any accuracy differences with my Missouri coated bullets (45-70) but the GCs hit and kick harder.
Correct me if I'm wrong the coated also limit/eliminate leading, right?

I need some myself. Just to try, I powder coat and generally don't push 'em fast so it's not a real big deal.
Thinking more about the 444 than the 44's. ;)
But, truly I haven't looked very hard.
