Hi all sorry to be a pain but you did help me out with my 357mag load with 158gr. swc and 5.6 to 6. gr of UNIQUE now I found new bullets and need some help again. I now have 125.gr Plated Flat Point and I still only have unique powder and no mag primers. and can't fine any on using that powder.

we use a good bit of Unique but not for magnum level loads .... we are fine with it for 38 spl level loads with regular primers

I'd start with 6.5 gr of Unique and max out at about 8 gr. The lyman book for 125 gr JHp has it 7.0 to 9.7 for handgun (no rifle data for Unique). Plated bullets are generally not supposed to exceed a certain limit. Xtreme bullets has this disclaimer on their site: Our Copper Plated Bullets can be run at mid-range jacketed velocities or higher end lead velocities. We recommend keeping velocities to less than 1500 FPS (Feet Per Second) and using only a light taper crimp.

Berry's has this disclaimer on their site:
Load data from any load manual or website can be used. Full-metal jacketed, lead bullet, or plated bullet load data can be used as long as the following standards are adhered to:

The data contains the correct grain weight of bullet.
Berry's max recommended velocity is not exceeded. (This info is displayed on bullet boxes and product webpages.)
Standard Plate Bullets Max Velocity: 1,250 fps.
Thick-Plate Bullets (TP) Max Velocity: 1,500 fps.
Do not over-crimp the bullet. Crimping so tight that bullet deformation occurs, or plating is separated causing visible exposure of the lead core will cause tumbling, key-holing, and reduced accuracy.

So by this I gather that a load for a 125 gr JHP can be used for their 125 gr plated bullet. (as per 7.0 @ 990 fps to 9.7 @ 1359 fps as listed above)

I too bought some 125s. I don’t have any Unique. But I have some W296. Using Speer bullet loading info, it looks promising. The load guidelines indicated a really fast fps using 18 grains. I don’t know how that relates to Unique.

Maybe contact Unique and ask about minimum/ maximum for your load?

Speer GDHP 125 grain data online Alliant Unique site.

I use 8.2-8.5 gr. Unique for .357 Mag with the Hornady 125 gr. XTP bullet. I believe that is a mid range load. I get speeds in the 1220 to 1280 FPS range out of my S&W M 66 revolver. Primer was Winchester WSP.
For steel plinking I use 6.9 Unique with a 125 gr. Xtreme plated bullet.

Agree with Forty 7 gr of Unique should give you a good start.

Glad some guys helped Galen out here. I looked thru my notes and I've never loaded 125gr anything in .357! And I have a full box of Speer 125 JHP's in the shop. Probably follow what Shakey Jake and forty mentioned. Well now......
