BIG VS SMALL PRIMERS

Post by Slugnut » Mon Apr 26, 2021 11:32 am

Is there any disadvantages / vantages in using small pistol primers instead of large pistol primes for reloading 45 acp ? ( I have both large and small brass on hand) I'd be reloading 200g, lead and 230g fmj, for plinking.

Nope, load away! I do this dance often. 5.4gr Universal with either small or large primers, 230gr LRN and I can see no difference. Even with a chronograph, very little if any difference in MV. Accuracy seems the same. You're good.

Guess it really depends on how many you have of each, and what other calibers use the same.
Then whichever you shoot the most.

I try to keep it simple and load large only. I've shot both and they both go bang!

I've shot both and like it's been said above, there's no real difference from my point of view.
Like Shakey Jake, I wanted to keep it simple and trimmed down to keep only one set of brass, (large).
Load 'em if you got 'em!

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......
