I am going to be loading some mbc 158gr bullets for my 357 bbs carbine. Have unique and h110. Can they be pushed towards max velocity or will they be more accurate at medium velocities?

I think you will be fine with Unique but Im not sure about h-110. Id just load a few and see how they shoot. You might get leading pushing them to fast

That was my concern. May just start with 38 +p and see what happens. Just for plinking.

Lots of guys on here shoot H-110 but most of them are using jacketed bullets. H-110 is a powder I have had no luck with in 357. One thing about H-110 its all or nothing. Its not a good choice IMHO for reduced loads. Also requires a mag primer. Probably not easy to come by right now but give 2400 a try if you get a hold of some.

After trying different powders, I get the best results from 2400. However, like Big Al said, if you can get some, otherwise start low with the 110 and see see how it prints.

I’ve been using those MBC 158 gr bullets for a good while in both my BBS and Rossi R92 357 mag. I’ve run them as fast as 1480 fps with no sign of leading. I like to keep my range reloads at about 1250 fps for general range plinking. Easy to shoot and the group well. I’ve tried several powders like Bullseye, Red Dot, Power Pistol, Titegroup but have settled on Universal for my general go to load.

Oksrt, you could try 5.5-6.0gr Unique with that Missouri 158. That's a pretty good load. If you have Alliant 2400, try 13.0gr.

Looks like Paul and myself were typing at the same time. I found that 6.0gr Universal is indeed a very good load for .357. Forgot about that one!

After deciding to get into reloading in early December, it looks like I will finally get everything necessary in a couple of weeks. Got .357 brass and 158gr MBC in about 10 days (ordered in January), and I finally found some 2400 and WSP primers at the Tulsa gun show today. From earlier discussions here, I think I am going to try 12.5/13/14.5 gr of the 2400. I found primers earlier at a LGS, but they won't sell them without buying an equal # of bullets--and they haven't had any .357 bullets in stock. What a deal.

I've heard/read that you should load powder coated or painted bullets at the same speeds as plated.
If you try pushing them too fast, you WILL end up with leading.

Yeah, I understand the same thing. With plated, you can get the plating to "peel" off if they're pushed too hard. Haven't had that happen with plated or coated, but, mine are generally mid loads.

That's why it's Unique it works well with most pistol calibers for medium power loads. I use Unique and Power Pistol for 38 Special.

Yep. Unique is a good one. Power Pistol for .38's huh? May have to try PP. When I can find it!!
