147gr 308 data
147gr 308 data
My brother handed me some 147gr 30 cal that he wants loaded for his 308. I can't find data in any of my manuals, one of you old war horses have data for this? I'm thinking I could use 150 data and keep it under max charge. Be using imr 4064

Re: 147gr 308 data
I checked all my manuals including some pretty old ones and nobody listed any data for the 147. I checked under the “service rifle” for 308 (7.62x51) and do dice there either. I’m sure you saw that the bullet companies combine the 150 and the 155 bullets under the same data so I’m thinking your 147’s using this data will be just fine. Funny that there is no data as that is a very popular bullet weight for mil spec 308 ammo.
I recently loaded up a bunch of 155 Hornady FMJ-BT using the 150-155 data for H4895 and had no issues at all. This was using mi spec brass which is understood to be slightly thicker that commercial thus increasing the pressure a little.
After my experience I would personably be comfortable using the 150 data for 147 of course starting at the bottom.

Ive loaded those also with 150gr data and had no issues. Need to check in my basement might still have some need to put them up for sale no more 308 here.

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

Re: 147gr 308 data
I had a batch of 147 gr. bullets someone gave me years ago. I used 150 gr. data and never looked back. But the again I almost never load to max on rifle loads.

I agree that following reliable load data for 150 gr should be OK .... over the years I've had to make similar judgements for odd size bullets and haven't ever had any issues

Re: 147gr 308 data
I looked in some of my manuals; nada. As others mention, use 150gr data, just don't go to max. You'll be fine. IMR 4064 is a good powder in the .308.
What other powders do you have?
Either IMR or H 4895, Varget, R#15, so many very workable powders for it.
