Got my "Shot Report" from Midsouth this morning. They had this link (although dated last month) as a reply to powder shortages. Still don't think that many more people have gotten into reloading to cause supply issues.

Think powder and primers will be hard to find for a good while.

Market forces are in play. I suggest that no one consider selling the family farm just now to buy ammo, powder, or primers.

I think that eventually (after "a good while"), the hoarders' inventories will top out and the paranoid, long time gun owners; the new and frightened gun owners; and the new and/or paranoid reloaders who are paying extreme prices for ammo and components will top out and prices will begin to slowly settle down.

These folks are currently on the demand side of the equation. When they're tapped out because they have so much (likely, too much) invested, the market will also slowly return to normal. We know that the supply side is continuing to keep the stream of ammo and components steadily flowing.

This is just an educated guess based on a similar market for ammo and components that occured after the horrific tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School in my home state shortly before I began my shooting hobby. Eventually, even after that emotionally charged event and the expected political restrictive reaction, the market eventually settled down -- and I stocked up.

It will likely do it again.

I mostly agree with your analysis of the cause for reloading components' shortages. I know the following words are an overstatment but, just for the record,'you have identified the cause(s) of the shortage, and "it is us". Last summer, when Trump was putting his foot in his mouth nearly every time he opened it, I and other reloaders at my 2 gun clubs began to worry that Trump would not be re-elected and if the Dems got in they would pass laws tightening down on gun ownernship and everything involved in the shooting sports, including reloading. Sorry, I accidently hit the "send" key before finishing the above reposonse to Ct Shooter's response to Shakey Jake.
As I was saying, longtime reloaders started to load-up on components last summer, and almost immediately this buying put pressure on powder manufacturer's, internet wahehouse suppliers, and Mom & Pop gun shos retailers inventories of reloading supplies. Most reloading components are fairly high ticket items, as such, manufacturers, internet warehouses, and retails store do not carry heavy inventories of reloading supplies because that ties up too much money. I think this has had a huge impact on reloading powder's supply chains. The JIT "just in time" manufacturing process and "days on hand" retail inventory practices have been killing us for the last 6 - 7 months, but as Ct Shooter has described, the shotages will be slowly go away.
