Anyone use IMR Red or Target? Thoughts? For 45 Colt...
I use Universal exclusively and have lots but looking to branch out...

RR, I'm not familiar with those two powders. I think you're good staying with Universal. Unique is another dandy, but, if it ain't broke, why fix it!

Another good one for the 45Colt is IMR 4227. Check out Hank Willams jr and his loading for the Colt. He shoots some long range at his house in Montana with his Ruger in 45 Colt.His load with 4227 though is a stouter load for sure. Might be good in your Low wall RR

I think I saw 4227 in the hardware store where I am headed again soon to clean them out of primers. Universal powder seems to be sold out everywhere here so just looking for more options for my hoarding habit.

I guess it depends on which end of the pressure range you want to operate. IMR Red or Target will keep you down in the classic 45 Colt pressure range, up to about 14,000 psi. Where IMR 4227 will get you into the modern Ruger, Frontier 30,000 psi range. For me I like to stay at the lower end and use coated lead bullets. I have several powders I use, Universal or Titegroup and Bullseye are my favorite.

Well the 4227 was long gone anyway...powders are getting very thin up here by the looks of it. They did have 2 jugs of Unique though so may do a little homework on that too.

I would grab the unique while you can RR (just to satisfy your inner hoarder!) and it is a great powder for 45 colt.

I think you'll be happy with Unique. That keeps you in the classic 45 Colt pressure range and is very similar to Universal for burn rate.

If you come across Alliant Red Dot it is very accurate with 45 Colt revolver use and cast bullets. 6 grs is all you need for 200-255 gr. bullet and within standard pressures

Ditto what Forty said I have used Red Dot with success in 45 Colt and other pistola calibers

2 lbs of Unique in the my cabinet this morning....they have at least 2 more jugs at the hardware store...maybe on payday.
