No Hazmat fee -- again

Thursday, I ordered four 1K boxes of WSPM primers from Cabelas. The online checkout included a $20 Hazmat fee. I got an email this morning updating my order with a notification that it had been changed. It said the order shipped, but the Hazmat fee was removed. This is the second time in a row. Last time was for four pounds of HP38 powder.

Aren't Hazmat regulations issued from the Fed level? If so, Cabelas can't set those aside, I'd think.

Maybe Cabelas is paying the Hazmat fee to the carrier. Gosh, if they are doing this, they must be inundated by powder orders!
Would make for very happy customers.

I wonder if it's because the first order was during a free shipping offer and the second one had a five dollar shipping offer. Could it be because of those promotions? It would be good know what happened. Regardless, a reduced cost is always welcomed.

I bet they are just eating the charge. Did the items arrive with a hazmat sticker?

The first one did. The next one is scheduled for delivery on Monday. I expect they are paying it, too; but I am curious about why.

Each time, as I checked out, the balance due included a hazmat charge (which I agreed to pay), and which was later removed.

For this issue, I wouldn't call Cabelas to find out the reason.
'Tis much better to maintain the status quo. As you said, "...a reduced cost is always welcomed."

Bank error in your favor. Collect $200.

I could be wrong but the Haz-Mat charges are for the carrier like UPS and FEDEX to regulate the cost not the government . The USPS tell you the things you can not ship in mail .

That is what I've always thought too.

The first one was shipped via UPS and this one is, too.

I just wanted to share the info, though. My LGS/Range doesn't sell reloading supplies and there aren't any others nearby, either. Cabela's is about 35 miles away in normally heavy stop and go traffic (or as much as an hour away). Online is much easier and economical if I purchase during their low or no shipping promotions; but Hazmat fees kick the cost of powders and primers up, in this case it would have been by 13%. So, when it's not charged, I get that unexpected discount. :)
