first, welcome to our forum .... delighted to have you join us .... feel free to read and post often .... with your mention of 240 gr bullets, I suspect you are referring to 44 Mag ... for all jacketed bullets (including Full Copper Plated) I use 23.8 gr of W296 or H110 .... we've taken black bear, boar and deer with them .... be sure to follow the link below to where you can add your Henry to our community's total

You need to tell us, is it for a full bore load? Plinking? What bullet exactly (what caliber rifle)? Some plated bullets have a maximum velocity.

I am a huge fan of AA9 for the former in .44 Mag, with hardcast or Lehigh XP bullets, too bad you can't find any. As a ball powder, it meters beautifully out of a drum-type (RCBS Uniflow or similar clone) measure. It generally gives pretty high fps, but not necessarily the highest. H110 is a great choice too.

For plinking I like Trailboss and get around 850 fps from a max load out of a 17" barrel, it is very pleasant to shoot, yet has 385 ft lbs ME, about like a hot 9mm from a pistol, enough to use as an human self defense round, for those of us in the States. It doesn't meter that well, but it doesn't matter in a super low intensity load.

You can load copper plated bullets same as plain cast lead or up into middle ranges of FMJ depending of bullet speed. About 1200-1500 FPS would be max for plated bullets. Yes we need to know what caliber you are loading.
I like Unique...Red Dot and Alliant 2400 powders.

Im not sure what powders you have available to you up there but the 296/110 powder Jim suggested seems to be a popular choice for hunting loads. Unique is good for plinking and I personally like 2400.

9 to 10 grs. Unique works very well for most things and a mid range 44 Magnum load according to Speer.....like 45 Colt but a 240 gr. bullet slightly smaller in diameter.
What you hit wouldn't know different! And of course 2400 powder works well too but just takes a bit more powder and would work very well in rifle.
Doesn't have to be a superman mag load.
