What did you do at your reloading bench today?
Re: What did you do at your reloading bench today?
Ahh, true blue is one of my favorite powders. I use it in many calibers and never gail to see excellent numbers.
At my bench I loaded up some 165gr cast SWCGC bullets from Mattsbullets over 14.5gr of LilGun and tried a different primer with these, Fiocchi small pistol to see how they compare to cci. This is a load that my rossi92 loves.
Also loaded some of the same with 15gr to try.

Re: What did you do at your reloading bench today?
Jimmie, that's an odd one, because as far as I know the two are of no relation as the 32 spl is a necked down 38-55.Mr. Neutron wrote: ↑Sat Aug 26, 2023 9:25 pm
One weird thing about all this is with 2 of the brass cases that I got from Graf’s, made by Quality Cartridge Co.. To me, they measure and look identical the other 18 cases of 20. But these 2 cases are marked “32 WIN SPL”.
The 32-40 is the original case, it came out a few after the 38-55.

I put a bunch of 9mm brass in the tumbler to clean and ordered some RMR 115 grain bullets. I also ordered a set of Lee carbide 9mm dies as. I gave my Dillon dies and one of my Dillon presses to my Step daughter

Yeah, that was a bit weird. You're absolutely right; the .32 SPL is a bottle necked case, and not a "tapered/straight wall" case like the .32-40.Jimmie, that's an odd one, because as far as I know the two are of no relation as the 32 spl is a necked down 38-55.

I never called or emailed the company that made the cases (Quality Cartridge, I think?
I threw my calipers and mic all over those 2 chunks 'o' brass, and they seem to be 32-40 cases. Just ain't marked that way.
As a side note: In the process of trying to figure out why none of the dummy rounds or the few rounds I loaded wouldn't feed and chamber, I called the guy in Paisley, Oregon that does the "Cinnabar" youtube videos about gunsmithing and shooting old Winchester rifles (and quite a bit of other interesting stuff). He got back to me with some suggestions (as much as you can do over the phone), and it just seems that my Uncle's particular rifle might need a spring and a little work on it. Since it's his rifle, I'll let him worry about getting it fixed, but wouldn't hesitate to recommend Mark at Cinnabar Gunworks for that Winchester Rifle. Meanwhile, since it does eject the rounds, my Uncle plans on trying to shoot it by feeding rounds in from the top as a "single shot", of sorts......

Picked up 1500 primers today for 90.00 plus tax of course. Local Sporstmans warehouse had some Fiocchi small pistol in stock so I grabbed some to load some 9mm with.

Tomorrow will be loading up some .45 acp. Not that I really need to, but, what the heck. A little yardwork today, straightening up the shop and now cracking open a beer and watching the Dodgers getting whooped. Again!
Re: What did you do at your reloading bench today?
Windy and cold here so in the loading room today I primed up about 500 rounds of 9mm. Bullets came today from RMR and I have more 9 mm brass coming tomorrow to size and prime.

Re: What did you do at your reloading bench today?
Been a busy day in the lab,aka the loading bench.
Loaded a box of 30-30, 170 gr Sierra's over 29.2 grs of 3031.
Then 14 rounds of 270, 150gr Sierra's over 50.6 grs IMR 4350.
Then 10 rounds for the 6.5 Creed, 142 gr Hornady ELD-X over 42.0grs of the same 4350.
And 5 rounds to play with for the Marlin 308mx, some Midway blems 165gr BT ballastic tips, over 41.1 grs. of LVR.
These will be shot single-shot style.
Then I mounted 2 scopes for a couple friends, got to try and sight those in later.
If it don't stop raining, I will have to use the barn, but can only do 80 yds there.

Not sure those 308s can improve on this group, but we'll see.
May extend the range a tad though.
I shot this group week before last, 110yds.

Randy - that's one mighty fine looking group. That's going to be hard to beat no matter what you're shooting. Just hang that target near your favorite deer trail and you won't have to fire a shot. They'll take one look and fall over.

Re: What did you do at your reloading bench today?
Thanks Paul.
Well, the mx didn't really like those but that's ok.
One rifle sighted and sent home, the other is close, went and helped a neighbor. So I will finish it tomorrow.

Nothing........I went deer hunting.
Re: What did you do at your reloading bench today?
Good thing I loaded up a lot back when primers were reasonable as I have only about 1k each of the ones I use and no more extra $$'s for more.
Re: What did you do at your reloading bench today?
Yes, we have had several lessons in the last 10 years about stocking up when we can and sitting on our inventory when we can’t.
Re: What did you do at your reloading bench today?
A modified view, stock up when we can, so we have something to shoot when we can't.

Once bitten and that is NOT happening again. I honestly forget the first time it happened, as in what year. But, when things recovered, I bought!

I think the three year span from 2017 after the election dust settled up through the beginning of 2020 when the chinese bug invaded our shores will be remembered as the "Good 'ol Days".
Re: What did you do at your reloading bench today?
To clarify my post in case it wasn't clear, I meant that I used my primers to load ammo. I was looking through my loaded stuff and now feel better about being low on primers. I bought all of the ones that I used and have left for about $16 per 1k. Also a lot of pure lead and #2 alloy plus many bullet moulds so @ 75 I think I am set for as long as I can still shoot good enough to not make myself look ridiculous.

Re: What did you do at your reloading bench today?
I'm sitting pretty good on components, probably around 4k ea on the 4 most used primers.
Even have around 1200 Mag RP.s which I use very little.
Powder and bullets look pretty good, I am about to order another 1000 180gr Pugnose from Missouri Bullet Co.
Can't have too many bullets.
