Favorite 45 Colt loads

Another dumb question; I see a company called Atlanta Arms has a dealer in Canada. Sells bulk ammo but their 45 Colt is FMJ. Is that a problem in lever guns or revolvers? Are these guys any good?

I heard from Henry today. They said "you can use all types of bullets except FMJ. RN is OK.

here we disagree .... it ain't no dumb question .. .. Henry must have a safety concern with FMJ's .... this is new info here and I'm glad it has been reinforced

This is new information to me, too. It comes a little late though. I've already reloaded and fired a little over 1000 .357 130gr FMJs and haven't had any issues at all. I think I'll check with Henry CS to ask exactly what the concern is. I'll report back.

I just spoke with Pete from HRA, who told me the only concern to consider with FMJs is that even though they are flat and shouldn't be in contact with the primers while stacked in the tube, they are also hard, unlike lead. He said there is a very remote possibility that a primer could be set off in the magazine tube, but for that to happen, the rifle would also have to be dropped from a very high place in order to generate enough force. He chuckled and added that if that happened, I wouldn't be anywhere near the rifle, anyway.

As I said, I've already fired lots of them from my Henry without an issue. I may not replenish my inventory of them in the future (out of an abundance of caution), but I'll continue to use them until they're gone.

Hey, my other dumb question: how long does stored ammo last? Is there a "best before" rule of thumb?

I looked it up. Looks like it will outlive me. Guess I better shoot it all. Can't have that.

I've been loading Hornady 250 gr. XTP's over 9 gr. of Power Pistol and the same bullet over 8.5 gr. Of Unique. Both loads use CCI 300 primers.

Edited to add:
The 8.5 Unique load is stouter than the Power Pistol load. No signs of excessive pressure in either one.

New here! But I've began testing loads for my BBSteel, trying to find a good general load for the rifle and my Blackhawk convertible. It looks like 8.3 to 8.5 grains of Herco pushing a Berry's plated 250 grain FP is going to give me really good accuracy- and seems to have roughly the same recoil and velocity as the American Eagle loads.
Herco is a great bulky powder for 45Colt.

Since my last post, I've pushed my load a bit. I've gone as high as 11 grains of Alliant Power Pistol with the 250 gr. XTP although 10.5 gr. serms a bit more accurate on my BBS.
I have a .44 mag. Marlin 1894 so I don't need to hot rod .45 Colt loads to that level.
