Cleaned some 270 and 44 mag brass yesterday.
Loaded 20 of the 270's.
Then I loaded 10 30-30's with a 173 gr cast over 18.0 grs of 2400 to try.

Never tried cast in my 30-30. Does the Marlin micro groove rifling work with those ?

There is back and forth arguments about cast in microgroove Marlins. But I read about alot of guys having success with it. Just need to give it a try

Yes sir, a friend and I played with some about 3 years ago. We got some pretty good groups shooting at 75 yds., believe that was with Unique though. He's no longer with us so I can't inquire.
This load was given to me by another friend I trust.
Need to load a few more now that I found where the rest of the 30-30 brass was hiding.
Even found 20 already sized and primed.
As I do have 5 candidates.
Not all Marlins though.

Depending on what you have, I could be interested.

Randy, that 270 is a good round. Had one myself yrs ago. Jack O'connor swore by it, back in the day. Kinda hard to argue with him.
I rarely ever buy a rifle, but when I do, it's a Henry.

Re: What did you do at your reloading bench today?
Hey oldbrass, that load wasn't very popular with the girls. The '66 Winchester like it best, and the '75 Marlin came in second, and the scoped Westerfield next.
When I was pulling the rifles out of the safe, the Ranger had a nylon shellholder on it with 4 cast loads.
Not knowing what they were I tore one down, looks like 18.5 grs IMR 4198.
Not bad with the scoped one. Definitely a good starting point.

That's some fine shootin' Vaquero, I'd take that seven days a week and twice on Sunday
