Re: WOW...and I thought smokeless was $$$$$
I used Blackhorn 209 back when I was shooting a 50 cal muzzle loader barrel with Federal 209 primers on my TC Encore. When loaded with Barnes or even TC sabots, I was getting one inch groups at 100 yards. That powder is flat out amazing. No cleaning between shots, shoot as many rounds as you want and when you do clean the bore, just use ordinary solvents, same as cleaning a regular rifle barrel. It was expensive back then and that was ten years ago.
I've thought about going back to another ML barrel on my Encore, but I passed on the idea because the cost per shot was way north of 3 dollars and that's if you could even find the powder and sabots, not to mention the Federal primers. I do have to laugh, though, when an Encore setup with a 50 cal barrel using Blackhorn, sabots and 209 primers legally qualifies as "primitive" in most states. Pretty ridiculous when the Encore could outshoot most lever guns or even some bolt rifles I've had. The only thing primitive about it was that you load from the muzzle.

Ya you need a high performance wallet to shoot anymore. More the reason to down size in caliber.

Makes me wonder .....Is that stuff that costly to produce or is Ramshot going off the deep end on pricing? Personally I have little interest in frontstuffers so my suggestion for what they can do with their $170 a pound powder really isn't valid.

Re: WOW...and I thought smokeless was $$$$$
Might have to start making your own. Potassium nitrate, sulfur, and charcoal.

Problem is, though, if I want real black powder, we have to drive several hours one way to buy it, locally, or pay crazy expensive shipping to buy it online. That makes real black powder pretty darn expensive, too. And then there's the problem of finding percussion caps. It ain't easy going primitive.

Rock locks are cool 5shot. You should give one a go sometime.
