Now I have 2 more boxes of 50 HSM ammo coming thru Cabelas since it was almost 10 bucks a box cheaper than last place I ordered and I got 23 buck discount using my Cabels points. No shipping cost because it will be sent to my local store. Plan is to remove the bullets and powder from the number of rounds I want to load and then use my bullet and powder. Cases already sized to so setup my Dillon 550 to make up a dummy round.
Now I am doing this using my Dillon .44 Mag/Special dies....oh horror Forty will crush those delicate 44-40 cases!!! NOT!

I had to slightly push the case into the 44 Mag shell plate it is a little tight but will go. Then set up the powder dump neck sizer using 44 Mag die for a slight flair for bullet start. The neck sizing fit was perfect and no buckling or anything yet. Then rotate plate to the seating die and no issues there adjusting to get my 1.580 COL....no bulging or buckling going on yet! Last moving to crimp die which is the Dillon taper crimp which is where some folks panic and lose their religion with these fragile 44-40 cases I hear about. No problem slowly adjusting the die down till I get the brass neck to slightly taper in....very slight like a .45 ACP or how I crimp my 44 Mag load using same type bullet....Worked fine!
Now I have heard about a .430 bullet might not chamber all the way in the 44-40 rifle due to increased bullet diameter or bulged case. No problem as the round slid right in the chamber and bottomed on case head. Then loaded it in magazine and cycled with no issues. Success!
All I really need to do is order the 44-40 shell plate from Dillon which they have in stock for easier loading the brass and then ready to reload!
