Ive always used the shorter brass in my Henry and Marlin. I think Vaquero uses the longer brass in his Marlin. I had the Marlin first and just never did buy any of the longer brass. 38-55 is definitely one of my favorite levergun calibers. Easy on the shoulder and still hits with authority.

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

Al, I didn't know anyone else on here shot this caliber.
Yes, as Al stated I use the longer brass in my Marlin, it was what the previous owner said he used.
So why use anything else, and he shared some data he had. ;)
I have both on hand as if the truth be known
I had brass both L. & S., 2 different weight bullets and a set of dies probably over a year before I bought a rifle. :o

So it's all I've used, Al do you know if the Henry will except the longer?
I would think it would.

Randy I dont know for sure but I would agree with you I would think it would. I dont have any long brass to try it with. To bad its not more popular as its one great round in my opinion. Easy to load for and recoil is very user friendly.

I agree, wish I had of discovered it a long time ago. ;)
If so, I'd probably have a few more of them. ;)

Al what do you size your boolits to, and are you getting good accuracy with them?
My understanding is that the longer starline brass has a thinner neck so one can load larger diameter boolits with it.
thanks

Larry
I bought some from Montana bullets. I think mine are sized at .377. Im not home right now so I cant refresh my pea brain. But if I remember right thats the size and I used RL-7 about 26 grains. I dont know if you have shot yours yet but Im betting you are going to love that caliber About 19 grains of XMP 5744 and a lead bullet of your choice makes one heck of a plinkin load

I found a 2019 article on Ammonland website about the Henry 38-55. The article said:
"This rifle’s chamber is cut to use 2.080 length cases available from Starline (starlinebrass.com) With heavier loads the brass will stretch so measure after sizing and trim if necessary."
Not sure if the larger size brass would work or not.

Sounds good Larry. Do keep us posted on how you are doing. There is a couple of us here that are interested to hear. Sluggling the bore on yours is not a bad idea. I had a 38-55 slugging kit already but a lead round ball from a muzzleloading friend will work also.

Heads up...I just saw where Starline is taking backorders of the short 38-55 brass.
