.45 Colt/2400

Post by Rifletom » Fri Oct 15, 2021 12:39 pm

While in the desert the other day, I was trying some different loads in the Pietta to see what it likes. Seems like 7.0-7.2gr Universal and 250gr rnfp coated bullets are the one. But, a load with 14.0gr 2400 was very accurate, but, seemed a bit stiff. I'll try some at 13.5 and see. Was pretty impressed with 2400 in .45 Colt. My Henry rifle REALLY liked that combo. FWIW, I was using T&B coated bullets this time and had zero residue in either barrel. Accurate as any other bullet I've tried in .45 Colt. Very happy with those results. I'll be buying more of those.

2400 really comes to life in the Ruger Only loads in 45 Colt. 20-21grs. with a 250 gr. XTP bullet packs a nice punch. I stick with Unique for standard Colt loads like 8 to 9 gr. with a 250-260 gr. cast lead bullet. Light loads I like the Red Dot powder.

Hey RT, my go to for .357 is 2400 and I lean towards HS-6 for the 45 as a favorite powder.

Ohh, I like 2400 for .357/180gr cast. A lot! I just have to stop messing around with the .45 Colt and stay with what works; primarily Unique or Universal.
Buuut, 2400 kinda surprised me. We shall see. Only with coated bullets tho. This is way too much fun!
