38 Special to Range special

Post by BruniX » Sat Aug 22, 2020 11:36 am

1 week ago, i test my new 586 , trying for first time some Geco 357 magnum JHP.

But the occasion was also to test my 38 special reload using brass drawn for 1 year at the range.using the Lyman # 358156 SWC 155 gr mold,

No need to use gas check, with the 38, only with 357 Loads
I used vihtavuori powder N350, and cci 500 small pistol

Five shots, one for each level of lyman book reloading data for 38 special from 4.5 to 5.
it's very smooth, specially compared with 357 Magnum... :D
i have decided tu load all my brass with 4.7 g, middle up of the scale...

450 brass to reload that i have shooted along this year at the range....
bullet was already calibrated and lubed, brass was allreeady cleaned, calibrated and primed ,only need to load insert and crimp bullet.

450 loaded, five like this :

Enough to go to the range for a while ... :)

See you soon.

Looks like a good load ! Post the results in the Range Reports when you can. Are reloading supplies hard to find in your area?

in fact it depends on the products.
for the 45-70, I had started with an imr powder, which I liked, but today American powders are almost impossible to find here.
Barnes bullet are also very difficult, if not impossible to find.
it must be customs problems or supply difficulties.

in general, everything is very expensive, 2 to .2.5 times more !!!

some time, i order products on midsouthshootersupply.com, web site, they have delivery to france not too expensive.
ex. RCBS Die, Lyman mold...

The legislation is also very tough, because a sport shooter cannot buy more than 1000 ammunition per year and per weapon.

suddenly, reloading is a pleasant and instructive way to spend less, and to be able to replenish stocks if you shoot a lot ...

I will send you a range report, but for now I scatter a lot, my progressive glasses are not suitable and I am not a good shooter,

not enough practice :-)

I used the 45-70 marlin a lot more, where I can now place the impacts in the dark at 220 yards, by dint of perseverance,
and with a 20 moa sloping picatiny rail with vortex scope.

but since I am stubborn, I will progress with the smith and the glock.
It's easier for now with the glock, because no rear sight adjustment.

see you soon
