Loading 300 gr. 44 special for Henry .44 carbine?

Post by fortyshooter » Mon Aug 05, 2019 10:23 am

I have a batch of 300 gr. 44 Mag loads but of course they are just a bit to long in COL to function in my Henry carbine.
Now after doing the math I found that my Missouri Bullets 300 gr bullets have same length from base to crimp groove as my 240 gr. MB bullets.
The 300 gr. bullets are .100 longer than the 240 gr. and the extra length is in the head.

Now the .44 Special case length is .125 shorter than 44 Magnum as measured so the 300 gr. Hammer bullets should feed as far as length is concerned
and might make up a few dummy loads to test function.

So only thing is to find/figure a the loading for 300 gr. 44 Special maybe using 2400 powder which there is some tested data for it.
Can bump it a bit for a load between Special and Magnum.

Anyway just a thought if you want to load some 300 gr. for rifle use.
